haha I took 3 days off because I had ITBS. Days before my leg locked up so bad I actually had to crawl back home. I stretched it out and crushed it last night.

Nah. I've been avoiding the thread because of depression from not running. I ran once during the 13 day vacation - a 10 miler on July 4. Meanwhile, I ate like an asshole. I got home on Wednesday but slept most of Thursday. Ran 9 on Friday and managed 4yestetday. Got up late today and told myself, "Gotta do a long run. 20 miles would lift me out of this funk." I'm writing as I walk home after 9. A PR is off the table. I made the decision to be on vacations. No regerts, as the tattoo says. I'm still planning on running, though. Verb, do you know when those practice runs on the course are? Maybe I can come down for one and we can run together, bullshit a bit, and take a bit of the unknown out of this thing.

I think they had one today. I'm toast man. The base I had built up is pretty much gone. Maybe there is a different race we could work towards and hit in stride? I have some serious questions on whether I can even meet my goals due to some of my limitations that are out of my hands. Just bummed out.

No pressure from me. You have to listen to your body. I hope you will keep running, though. It can be very cruel, as you and I are both experiencing right now. The highs, though, are incredible. After I finished my second marathon, as I was stumbling toward picking up my race bag of shit I dropped off at the start, I had to fight off crying 3 times. It was weird. I don't even cry at funerals. It was like happiness and relief, and I wasn't even mentally consciously feeling those things. It was just what my body wanted to do.

Personally, I think you're overestimating what it takes to finish in under 4 hours. From what you were sharing in June, I think if you just put in 30 miles a week with one of the runs each week being 10 or more and one getting up to 18, you would find yourself under 3:45. I truly believe that.

I'll always run I just don't think I have enough time between now and Fox valley. I feel like I'm closer than I have been in the past and that's a positive.

That looks awesome! I don't know how prudent it would be to attempt just a month after Fox Valley, but I'll bet the temps would be ideal.

This guy has been recommended by a few friends that are serious runners. Apparently his focus is not to keep you coming back, but to treat the root cause instead.

He sometimes does dry needling (acupuncture) as part of his treatment. Anyone had this?
Got bottom paged.

Pre-run: Peanut butter and toast, water and a five minute warm-up walk to whatever track or neighborhood I want to run in. It's all about the post-run ritual for me. I like to plan my routes to finish near my grocery store where I grab some snacks and water, stretch my legs on a park bench and let the endorphins kick in. When I get home, I put on loud music and ride the high. Typically chores happen afterwards, and they're more fun than chores should be because I just ran and music is on.

Never heard of it. I went to a guy for my plantar last summer, and he used these medieval tools to rub my feet. It was like going to the dentist for my feet. I dreaded it, but it did help.

Me too. I like to have it an hour before I run. I won't go out in the morning if I haven't shit at least once.

Stayed at a resort this weekend and ended up going on two 2-hour hikes with my son and playing a lot in the pools.

My chest cold doesn’t seem to be any worse. Hope to hit the canal Tuesday morning.

This is my pre-race meal.

Sadly, I can’t even handle peanut butter and toast “in-race” these days. :?

I’ve had to resort to Tailwind only.

Acupuncture has been a staple in elite ultra running for about 10 years now. The people who tend to get it are people with a chronic injury. They use it for pain management, which is the only thing it's been medically proven to help with.

Anton Krupicka did it for years while dealing with tendinitis in the shin.

The official diagnosis is anterior compartment syndrome. The osteo found the causes pretty quickly, mainly overuse but attributed by what appears to be an old injury in my right ankle. The old injury has resulted in limited range of my right tibialis anterior.

He did a fair bit of massage and manipulation (popped my right ankle) and acupuncture - which was an interesting sensation.

Plan of attack is running a mile every second day on a soft surface. Plus focused daily stretching and using a jump rope. If it responds well and it improves my limited range, then the osteo expects I should be able to start clocking up the miles in the next couple of months.
