Yeah, I headed over to the show thread and listened. Good version. Still not a fan of this tune, though.

The Lolla version is actually kind of a trainwreck, it sounds like the whole band lose their place transitioning from the solo to the outro.

I also thought it was faster than I've ever heard them play it.

at some point, a PJ concert is just going to start sounding like a record set to 78rpm

The Mad Season reissue is available on
HD Tracks in 24/44.1; along with the 24/96 bootlegs Brett now produces, it gives me some hope we might see some audiophile Pearl Jam reissues/releases at some point.

This is very likely as Hdtracks has a deal with Legacy Recordings but i'm not so sure it will be worth buying as PJ doesn't seem to put much care into sound quality and Hdtracks releases are usually from already existing masters rather than dedicated new masters so even if it's 24bits it may not sound much better than the cd version if the master (if not the mix) has been brickwalled.

Someone is on PJ radio right now interviewing Mike. Not sure if it is old or new. They asked him whether or not Of The Earth will be on the next album, and he said he hoped it would be but doesn't think it will make the cut. Not the right time or something like that.

Of the Earth is fucktons better than anything we've had for ages. It's still not that great, but it might be the best they can do at the moment.

It sounds like it belongs on S/T so I don't think it'll get find its place on another record.
A random release would be good.

Depends what the new album sounds like. It's all about how it's produced. I'm pretty convinced at this point that most of their post 2000 material could've sat on any album; the only thing giving these newer albums much variety is their production. The production on S/T and Backspacer ruined some otherwise fairly interesting songs. And if they produce Of the Earth to sound like Backspacer, it'll fit another cartoony pop album fine.

Arcade Fire have the gift of all their songs being able to sound like their from any record. In terms of writing and playing. I don't think PJ has this at all. Im thankful for that. it wouldnt work for them. We'd be even more bored / theyd get a harder time, if they did this If that's what you mean.

Actually Harmless, after the rickroll yesterday I was gonna say they should get stock Aiken and waterman to produce their next record but I guess it could be argued Backspacer did that already.

Thing is, Arcade Fire are still writing interesting songs. Granted, they haven't been around for over 20 years. I don't mind bands not changing from album to album (PJ have always been like that to some extent) but I have got very bored of late with the same formula producing retreads and passionless ditties like 'Ole'. A long time without songs has allowed me to gain more objectivity about what we have, and most of it is fairly boring.
