I just listened to "Hate That I Love You So" by Rihanna and Ne-Yo like 9 times in a row.

Perhaps it's that 'awesome rock n' roll outlaw' kind of rock mythology that I have a problem with in general and the film is just another example of that being reflected in popular culture.
I'm not saying you're way off base. The elements you're talking about exist in the film, for sure. However, I don't think the ultimate point of the movie is to glorify them. I actually a big part of the journey of the main character is seeing through and letting go of those myths and seeing shit for what it is.
Come on, Spenno. That's like saying that "Kids" glorifies AIDS or that "A Clockwork Orange" glorifies raping and killing people. Sometimes there is a moral to the story.
Guys, I concede I may be wrong about the reasons I hate
Almost Famous.
If a situation arises where I have to watch it again - let's say I break my legs and I'm stuck on the couch and it comes on TV and I can't reach the remote and everyone else in my household is out for some reason and can't hear my plaintive cries - I promise I'll formulate a more coherent criticism.
I have no doubts at all however that the film is terrible, bad and very much not good at all.

it's ok spenno, i'm with you.
although i've only seen it once because i never wanted to see it again, so i doubt my film criticism is valid whatsoever

For what it's worth, I think Almost Famous is terribly overrated. I don't HATE it, but can't imagine a situation where I'd ever watch it again.

Its like how there are no real anti-war movies; there are no real anti-rockstar lifestyle movies. Soldiers go into battle after watching Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket, kids watch Almost Famous or Spinal Tap and then start bands to try to fuck groupies.

I feel like Velvet Goldmine is a closer representation of Cameron Crowe's biography, instead of Almost Famous.

Crudup and Hudson are terrible actors, Hoffman was the only decent actor in the whole thing. The kid was supposed to be dopey but christ he sucked as well.

I get why people hate on the lyrics in Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, but appropriate to the album's unfiltered stream-of-consciousness approach, I think she actually has some really great lyrical moments interspersed throughout. My two favorites right now:
"we never get to see ourselves sleeping peacefully next to the one that we love / we never see us cry when someone dies or see us cry when someone new is born"
"I had a dream that you were dyin', but I wasn't even cryin', I just sang you to sleep, I sang you to sleep"

I think one of the songs she performed on SNL had that first lyric, and it really struck me. I haven't listened to any of that album, and doubt I will, but I liked that lyric

"How can I make someone dying or being born more about me?" said the pop singer.

That's a rather cynical reading. But, you are Burt.

If Miley Cyrus doesn't make you cynical, you must be Miley Cyrus.
