The 15 second teases they gave us for DOTC and SBWM were the parts that were very different from the rest of the songs so it would follow what they’ve been doing.
You're not wrong, but i quite like all those songs sans getawayBirds in Hell wrote:That was a long time ago, Strat.Strat wrote:yea but ed has also wrote:Birds in Hell wrote:Great, another Vedder-penned, rhythmically-static thud rocker in the vein of Getaway, WWS, etc.Strat wrote:Dont love that teaser. Two such songs, back-to-back, at the start of the album does not bode well, especially when I already disliked SBWM.
I'm confident the album will at least sound much better than the last few, and I still have hope for a handful of songs, but I'll admit my expectations of having an enjoyable front-to-back album have completely flatlined since finding out Ed wrote so much of it.
Porch, RVM, Small Town, not for you, corduroy, better man, whipping, off he goes, habit, wishlist, breakerfall, grievance, insignificance....
There's always hope Spenno!
His rockers seem cut from the same cloth these days.
I think you could make a kind of horrifying megamix out of Undone, WWS, Green Disease, GSMF, Getaway, Lightning Bolt, SBWM. It's all that same pounding 4/4 rhythm with Ed grunting and bellowing over a bunch of chords banged out on every beat, he's drawing from a very limited sonic palette.
Even when Jeff or Stone or Matt's songs aren't great, they're never that unimaginative.
Good list of songs that are all 20+ years oldStrat wrote:yea but ed has also wrote:Birds in Hell wrote:Great, another Vedder-penned, rhythmically-static thud rocker in the vein of Getaway, WWS, etc.Strat wrote:Dont love that teaser. Another "chord" rock song. But its only 10 seconds so whatever

no its a super low tier song for Pearl Jam. It's OK.PHATJ wrote:SBWM is fantastic
Hard disagree. Both SBWM and Dance are better than anything since RA, and there’s not much that is even close.Vindicator wrote:no its a super low tier song for Pearl Jam. It's OK.PHATJ wrote:SBWM is fantastic

Super hard disagree. SBWM is better than Life Wasted? Severed Hand? Inside Job? Pendulum? WWS?PHATJ wrote:Hard disagree. I'm not going to defend the lyrics but I think the song is very good, certainly preferable to a bunch of songs on the last two records.Strat wrote:man alive inside job sucks
