I’m sure, but it is impossible for me to imagine that its inclusion isnt essential to an accurate framing of the moment in any reporting. The Times fumbles its obligations yet again, whether in favor of continued access or just a misguided understanding of what “balanced” reporting is.

This is where Republicans need to be careful not to give Trump too long of a leash, because if this norm is shifted, a future Democratic president will definitely take advantage of that shift.

Health care, education and housing costs are a lot closer to a national emergency than a fence.

That itself has already been ruled unconstitutional, although the vote lineup was very unusual for that, and there's only two members of the majority left (Thomas, Ginsburg) and one dissenter (Breyer).

For the record I'm not for either a line-item veto or expanding the emergency powers of the president as Trump is doing.
