I think this is the first time ever that I've gone "holy shit it rules?!" on first listen, to be slowly followed by a bunch of other RMers

I have to imagine this song will go the same way as Getaway. They’ll attempt playing it a few times, Ed will throw his head around like he’s really into it, all the while Stone and Jeff will share knowing grimaces as the song is at heart a formless chug without any genuine movement or excitement and it quietly and ignobly disappears from setlists shortly after, never (or very rarely) to return.

Why does Ed persist in trying to write these kinds of songs?

They’re all terrible.

Superblood Wolfmoon

Superblood Wolfmoon, took her away too soon
Superblood Wolfmoon, took her away too soon

I can hear you, sing in the distance
I can see you when I close my eyes

Once you were somewhere, and now you're everywhere
I'm feeling selfish and I want what's right

I ask for forgiveness, I'm begging myself
feeling angry, now get off the stage

Right now I feel, a lack of innocence searching for reveal
hypnotonic resonance I feel
not much of anything, and the cause is life or death

A life of hopelessness, focus on fucks all your focusedness
I've been hoping that a hope does last
I don't know anything, I question everything
This life I love is going way too fast

Both my eyes are swollen
my face is broken
And I'm hopin that I hurt your
hopin that I hurt your
hopin that I hurt your fist

She was a stunner, and I am stunned
And the first thought or second thought was 'could be the one'
I was a prisoner, of keys and of cuffs
Yeah I was feeling fortunate to be locked up

But the world got to spinnin, always felt like it was ending
and love not withstanding we are each of us fucked

I'm in danger, feelin the distance
I can see you when I close my eyes
Once you were somewhere, and now you're everywhere
I'm feeling selfish and I want what's right

I ask for forgiveness, I'm begging myself
feelin angry now get off the stage

Superblood Wolfmoon, took her away too soon
Superblood Wolfmoon, took her away too soon
Superblood Wolfmoon, took her away too soon

I can hear you, seen sing in the distance
I can see you when I close my eyes
Once you were somewhere, and now you're everywhere
I'm feeling selfish and I want what's right

Focus on your focusness, to a life of hopeless’s
I've been hoping and I hope that lasts
I don't know anything, I question everything

This life I love is going way too fast

This song really benefits from reading the lyrics. I completely get sucked into it all.

I’m about 50/50 on it. Maybe less.

To clarify, I loved this song on the first 20 listens when I could barely make out half the lyrics, but I feel propelled even further with words in hand.

You we're right all along.

I really crin...er...winced when I first heard this tune. Now I'm wondering if it's not a 5. What is happening??!

I’m not sure how it’s happening, but what’s happening is that PJ has just released two fucking really good songs, and the new album has a feeling of limitlessness that hasn’t been around in close to 20 years. The album could still prove to be a disappointment, but not if these songs are a real indicator.

The reaction to SBWM is similar to that of Tremor Christ. At first confusion and distain, followed by bewildered intrigue, then an appreciation and understanding of the structure and vibe of the song, then “positive emotion”, followed by “shit man, this song is fucking cool”. Superblood Wolfmoon.

Today was the first chance I got to listen to this while driving and I turned it up real loud and just really enjoyed it and there was this grin on my face when it transitioned out of Mike's solo into that riff. The energy of the song and the warmth of the guitars is I think what sells me on it. I don't think they will ever do something at the level of my favorite songs of theirs again, but to have something that is new and brings a smile is more than enough at this point. If this was some other band would I like it as much? Probably not, but there is a lot of history and runway I am willing to give them to try and find something new and creative at this point in the game. If you really prefer Ole, Can't Deny Me to this then you probably should just call it a good run and move on.
