False equivalences are one thing that got us in this mess.

Like associating Trump and his supporters with racism, fascism and white nationalism?

I'm not so convinced this is a false equivalency anymore.

All I can suggest is not getting caught up in the current hysteria.

Trump has no other skills to lead the free world. The things he is best at are the above things. If you voted for him, you at least support those ideals to an extent.

To play devil's advocate, he obviously has a knack for real estate -- something not entirely useless when your country has a habit of occupying other countries. But while a scenario does exist in which Trump brings about an amazing new US economy, I don't actually think that'll happen.

The guy inherited more money than any of us will ever see (except Doug). Money makes money. I know tons of people good at real estate, its because they are rich. Im not impressed.

Money doesn't always make money. Trump's grandfather started out as a barber. He knew how to make money from scratch. And reversals of fortune can happen if your heirs are bad at making money.

The Hartfords no longer wealthy - heir to the fortune was bad at business and reckless
The Strohs - lost their nut because of debt

I had no idea how Trump would cope with the Presidency, I wasn't sure he even wanted to win, but he's been off to a reasonably impressive start so far. Early days, however.

Getting back to this for a second: what do we think was the most impressive thing he did all week to prove that he could cope with the presidency? Was it when he had a dick measuring contest about crowd size for the entire week or when he claimed, without one iota of evidence, that the very basis of our democracy--the electoral process--had been delegitimized due to a non-existent conspiracy where 5% of the votes cast were illegal (but that, don't worry, none of these phantom voters voted for him, all his votes were real)? I'll take my answer off the air.

President Trump signed an executive order on Friday that purports to bar for at least 90 days almost all permanent immigration from seven majority-Muslim countries, including Syria and Iraq, and asserts the power to extend the ban indefinitely.

But the order is illegal. More than 50 years ago, Congress outlawed such discrimination against immigrants based on national origin.

That decision came after a long and shameful history in this country of barring immigrants based on where they came from. Starting in the late 19th century, laws excluded all Chinese, almost all Japanese, then all Asians in the so-called Asiatic Barred Zone. In signing the new law, President Lyndon B. Johnson said that “the harsh injustice” of the national-origins quota system had been “abolished.”

Guys, I consider it very fundamental that a country can effectively control who enters it, who is allowed to stay in it, etc.

This has very little to do with "bad hombres" either - there are thousands, if not millions, of people who would love to live in the USA and I have no doubt the majority of them are good, sincere people with the best of intentions.
