I watched Scream 1 and 2 for the first time in decades and really enjoyed both of them, but especially the first one.

"A Tale of Two Sisters"

Korean film from 2003 that for some reason I'd never got to until last night, what a beautiful film that was

I like how they highlighted the "compelling performances" in Oddity. Otherwise this list is complete shit!

"The Moor" (2024) - this started off SO well and has all the cosy English folk horror vibes (iykyk) you could want, but at over two hours it was just far too long, and I was fighting sleep by the end

"Immaculate" (2024) - I spent far too long not being very interested in this, and when I eventually got to it, found it actually quite emotional and harrowing (albeit with too many campy jump scares); "The First Omen" is pretty much the same story and technically probably a better film, but this one got under my skin more for some reason

"Azrael" (2024) - I liked the concept and am all for a movie that's low on plot and high on vibes, with lots of ambiguity, I just found it ultimately kind of bland and too repetitive; didn't finish

"Door" (1988) - a little dated in some spots and obviously low budget, this is still very well constructed, shot and acted -- it's J-horror, of course it is -- worth a watch if you want to see what an 80's home invasion horror made in Japan looks like

"MadS" (2024) - just watched, and greatly enjoyed: quick, emotional, beautiful and intense; this is how to do a slice of life vibey horror well

I finished "Kwaidan" (1964) last night, a J-horror classic anthology film if you have 3 hours to spare; really excellent, and it was nice to think about what it must have influenced later (Ringu, Ju-On, I even saw a bit of Demon Slayer in it)

Kwaidan is great, all that era of 1960 japanese folk horror is amazing really. Kuroneko, Onibaba, Jigoku, 100 Yokai, etc.

Didn’t realize that had gone OOP. Wonder if maybe there’s a 4K in the works.

At least the 3 disc limited edition is, anyway. Crazy that this movie has a 3 disc Blu-ray release, used to be you had to either find an old vhs or dl it…
