Ball carrier’s helmet hit defender in the neck/chin area … or ball carrier’s shoulder hit defender square in the chest. I am thinking it’s a severe chest impact if they had to do CPR.

But overall no, not a brutal play. Looked relatively routine.

Damn. You just never know.

Did I hear someone say they did CPR for 9 minutes? That is not good.

Wow, that really was a typical, not particularly violent play.

I watched that awful event unfold in real time last night on TV and Twitter. My thoughts:

Thank God Hamlin is still alive.

The hit was nothing crazy and within the rules, but sounds like if you get hit at just the wrong time and place it can mess with your heart and its electrical rhythm similar to getting beaned in the chest by a baseball.

Lots of misinformation initially out there comparing this to a concussion injury (and some dolts on Twitter saying it is related to the COVID vax).

I great satisfaction in blocking people on Twitter, especially COVID/vaccine conspiracists.

These types of injuries are said to be more prevalent in baseball with a batter being struck in the chest with a fastball.

Have they figured the cause to be the hit, tho? It looked fairly routine and I’d be willing to bet there’s some sort of underlying condition that has gone undiagnosed that has at least played a part in his collapse.

Either way, I hope he turns out ok. Very scary.

I think Higgins’ shoulder popped him pretty damn hard in just the right (wrong) spot.

Football pads have gotten significantly smaller over the years.
