I wonder how much this actually cost vs how much the marketing for it is costing?

They'll have to spend a mountain of money on marketing this.

Kiddin aside they will have to spend a ton to make people who are just casual fans malware that it 1. Isn't the follow up to FA and 2. It's set before a new hope.

That's the issue. This is their flagship stand alone. It's returns will not only affect future stand alone attendance but could overshadow negatively on 8s returns. The campaign to differentiate this from the main trilogy is the mission. It could backfire horribly.

I already have a top ten of questions from confused casual fans. Is that Rey? Is she from the empire now? It's set before the first star wars? You mean the first one or the first first one? Oh so it's a prequel? So Is that reys mom? I thought the prequels are all bad? So this doesn't follow force awakens?

It's only July. I'm dreading the next few months.

A lot of our faith on Disneys marketing has taken a hit.

Celebration is their big storefront for what's coming.

They didn't release a rogue one trailer.

Can't recall how far out we had force awakens title or trailers but we definitely had a few by the time celebration rolled around last year,
A few months, 6 months out from release

i wouldn't be too worried:
A teaser trailer for Rogue One [was] released by Lucasfilm on April 7, 2016 ... The trailer was viewed close to 30 million times in its first 29 hours at a rate of 800,000 views per hour from Facebook and YouTube, which is 200,000 views shy of what the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was receiving in November 2014.

There is no way this movie bombs. Just because of the brand....the common viewer might be confused about where this story takes place? Yeah, maybe...but i dont think its going to be a problem...its going to make shitloads of money anyway.

The lack of the trailer reinforces my theory of " Disney change the tone of the movie".

the release of a trailer hardly requires a final cut of a movie, VG.

Yeah I don't get your logic here, VG. A trailer is at most 3 minutes. So unless they are reshooting the entire movie, I'm sure they can pull 3 usable minutes from original shooting to make a trailer.
