To me, you have 5 guys with different musical influences that come together and become Pearl Jam. Sure they probably don't hang out that much due to family obligations etc but, I respect that. I don't hang with my buddies like I used to and I hardly pick up my guitar anymore. I look forward to the new album. These guys are definitely pros.(they have put in their 10 000 hrs) (I have heard to be an expert at something up have to dedicate 10 000 hrs to it.) Thanks
Did you really go to that board to pick this out and bring it to us? For someone who claims to be apathetic (at best) about Pearl Jam, you sure do spend an inordinate amount of time piss-soaked in its culture. Go for a walk or something. Life is short.
I sometimes go to Pearljam.com for the laughs, get annoyed at what I'm reading, wish I could post my annoyance, before remembering I'm broke and that's why I don't post.

I'm not totally convinced that verb doesn't like PJ, I just think he's conflicted and still struggling with the fact that PJ are still not quite cool enough for him and his friends.

I could care less if people don't like Pearl Jam. There are a million other bands to get excited about - go nuts. I just don't get the whole process of "hating" something but spending a lot of time on it while also telling people who enjoy it that they're "wrong." Like, I don't enjoy the Chili Peppers all that much but I don't go to whatever message board they have and tell them they're idiots for liking Dani California. Because that would be a waste of time.

Also, let's get serious, Dani California is a masterpiece. Bad analogy.

I hate RHCP, but otherwise I completely agree. If I've moaned about PJ on the board, it's been from a place of passionate frustration as a fan. But I'm only fairly recently learning that there are people here who are just bored of everything PJ related. Can they get their own status or something, because they're frustrating and I'd like to avoid clashing with them on every thread other than plainly stupid GD ones.

I think Harmless is accurate with his assessment. There has to be some self-hate of liking PJ going on.

They doth protest too much and all that shit.

Also, in case it wasn't clear, I'm kidding about Dani California. It's not a masterpiece, it's the greatest song of all time.

I'm over 30. I have no need to feel cool anymore. PJ are a source of art and entertainment for me; it's either conceptually and musically ear-pleasing, or it isn't. It really doesn't need to be cool in the context of the current music biz. I've felt like that since I bought Binaural and it really wasn't very cool. Nothing's changed. PJ are still the band that they were in that sense. They refuse to be 'cool' for us. As long as they're not totally shit, I'm fine with that. But some people here aren't, yet. And I remember not being either, so I can forgive them. I'd just like to know who they are so I can block them (only half-joking).

I tried putting people on "ignore" for awhile, but then I realized I was being a pussy so I stepped up and shouldered the burden of reading through lazy garbage. Let my example light the way.

I got into Pearl Jam just when Binaural came out. I thought the artiness of it, especially coming from a former mainstream band, was super cool. It wasn't cool in the "context of the current music biz," but that's what makes it actually cool. They didn't give a fuck.

Nowadays, they still aren't cool in the eye of the current music biz, but they aren't cool any other way either.

*Edit: I guess that's contradicting my last post. I am not very articulate

They weren't cool in either realm then, either. They've been in that position for a very long time.
