I agree with this one being very high on the list. Mike´s solos are great and creative. He was channeling something there. But i also love what he is doing on verses too.

Gigaton and DM are like peas and carrots.

Gigatons wings are spread and its a journey. Interesting. However, really fucking drags ont he back half of the album. I like all those songs but the sequencing is a bore.

DM sounds like crap but its a total assault of some of their best rock songs in decades. Super exciting front to back.

So, put them together...yay pj

Gigaton --- I would cut Retrograde and River Cross. End the album on Comes Then Goes.

"Won't Tell" came up on shuffle this morning, and I manually picked "Upper Hand" right after.
I'm pretty sure I like it even more now.

I'd just cut Retrograde. Maybe include a certain b-side in there as well.

I don't hate that.

But I'm also glad we have both of those songs.

Is the drum sound better with Dolby atmos ?

no, but the drums are more distant under the guitars, which kind of sucks

The only thing the Atmos adds is... that laugh in React, Respond? It scares the shit out of me in Atmos

If we ever get a properly remastered version of Dark Matter (reminiscent of what happened with the Spotify mix of the Avocado album, if I'm not mistaken), I think it could open a lot of eyes, er, ears, to the album's relative greatness.

On a related note, Won't Tell>Upper Hand>Waiting For Stevie will always be one of the best 3 song segments I've ever heard on any album. When Radiohead's King of Limbs came out, I felt similarly about the last three songs on that one (Codex>Give Up the Ghost>Separator). Just perfection together, by themselves.

Seems for me that mix would solve the issue with the powerful snare

What don't you like about it? Seems very classic PJ to me.

Me too, but almost more importantly, it sets up WFS masterfully!

with upper hand, i like the first half.. i like the second half.. but i just don't feel like they fit together that well

it's like there isn't enough of a build up to warrant that release. it kind of just happens.

The intro is nice but it builds to nothing. Actually worse than nothing, it builds to a complete letdown. Ed’s vocal delivery is worse for me than anything else from him in the catalog. The end of the song is decent but I can’t sit through the middle portion to get there.
I’m glad people like it and I really enjoy most of DM but UH might be my least favorite Pearl Jam song. If it came up on shuffle I would listen to the build up and then hit skip as soon as I could.

I love the solo at the end. Reminds me of J Mascis.
