Haven't been following this thread, so forgive me if this has been covered already, but it feels like omicron is going to be the strain that finally gets me and my household. This thing is targeting my fellow vaxxed and boosted friends left and right lately. Not confirmed omicron variation in their cases, but it's gotta be...right?

Are your fellow vaxxed engaging in behavior that is contributing to their risk? Large group events? Being around others maskless? You can take steps to reduce your exposure.

Is the test a binary choice of negative or positive? If it is, then it would have to be negative until it's positive.

Yes, kinda?
Remember back in the day we'd all rally around any weekly TV show that we knew in real time? Some loved it, some hated it, some never watched it but knew all the characters names anyway because it was a cultural moment.
Then streaming picked up steam before exploding pop culture into a million fractured pieces. Now not only are shows being watched in different chunks by different people, but five different households might have five separate streaming services, rendering conversations about popular shows a complete and total mess of individual experience.
I feel like this is what we are about to go through with so many different protocols and jurisdictions. It's that post-streaming moment for virus messaging. It will make the lockdowns of 2020 look like a totally unifying experience, which it of course wasn't.

For instance, in any given city or state:
2020: universal or near universal closures
2022: left side of the street is completely shut down. right side of the street is open but only accepts nfts for payment per covid protocols

it's been all over the place for awhile. if anything, the current wave could make things more uniform. chicago's considering a vaccine passport like NYC, for example. depends on where you live.

True, but with something as contagious as omicron seems to be, a lot of hands are about to be forced. Staffing issues, city mandates, school policies and whatnot are going to be formed in ways that we didn't experience in the initial outbreak. I took trag's "we're doing this again" query to mean we're about to talk lockdowns again, to which I say we're not doing
that again. It's going to be something much weirder.
