I don’t hate that one, but it shows how few ideas the band had for that record.
Ehh - you could say the same thing about Betterman and a few other songs. The version we got is pretty different from what was on the Uke album, and a great song in its own right. They didn't NEED to add it. The album had enough songs and was long enough. It's better for the inclusion.

Sleeping By Myself always felt very Christmassy to me on Lightning Bolt

I always thought this too. Should have been an Xmas single instead.

great as a xmas single for sure. In the album context...its a very cool version of a song ive already heard.
Kinda the same as with Cant Keep in Ed´s album.

I'll be the first to admit that I was as outspoken as anyone on here about how pissed I was when I heard they were putting a remake of Sleeping By Myself on LB--seemed to me like a huge waste of album space. Then when I heard it, I was shocked at how good BO'B's version was. I think it was Stip who said it but he referred to it as a 'miniature triumph' or something like that (I agree). Just my take though.
Future Days on the other hand is absolute garbage. I cringe at the opening piano notes every time. I don't think I've made it through the whole song since its initial release.

it's actually a pretty little minor song outside of the twinkly intro/outro (which is offensive). Nice enough lyrics/sentiment, and a touching, albeit saccharine, performance from Eddie

I recently heard FD again since its release, and it plain sucks so hard. The lyrics are so horrible.

Future Days is definitely in the running for the worst song this band has done. I'm not entirely sold on River Cross from the live version I've heard, but I already know it's far, far better than their previous closer.
And I'd agree with everyone that that Quick Escape clip sounds pretty great. I don't know whether it's arrangement or production (and who can tell that from a Twitter clip), but it sounds expansive in a way I haven't heard from them in quite a while.

Well, my statement was coupled with the fact that BOB, before the LB release, said they didn't really have any leftover songs from the sessions, so they were reaching back for this one. I like his version, though.

At least we won't have the third solo acoustic guitar Ed song in a row as a closer. Still an Ed ballad for the third time but different enough.

And yes, I'm ready for an Alright tease. I love Jeff songs and this one sounds different.
I didn't know what a Kalimba was two months ago and now we're gonna get a good dose of it.

This is where my expectations are too.
Every record from
Binaural onwards, with the exception of the last two, has been a half-successful mixed bag with a few misfires. If the new album picks falls back into that pattern, I'd be happy.
AL at Binaural being half-successful.
