I just tested my two year old for the 4th time this year and am having to adjust my staff's schedule on Christmas week because a double vaxxed and boosted manager just tested positive. Nothing in that scenario is unique to Tejas.

Sounds like the current wave is a northeastern thing at the moment.

Just saw omicron has been detected in 45 states, so it’ll be an everywhere thing pretty quickly.

I’m like 70% sure my wife would’ve been stuck in Europe over Xmas if she hadn’t canceled her work trip this past week.

In-laws really want us to go to Christmas Eve mass at a church without a mask requirement. Thanks, but not thanks.

Same. My wife was supposed to be in Madrid right now but thankfully canceled.

Hopefully the next 4 weeks or so will prove that it's become endemic and move us to the next phase of all of this.

Would probably happen if 40% of the population wasn’t still unvaccinated.

If it's as mild as South African data suggests, *hopefully* that won't matter.

What do you think the next phase looks like?

In the next phase, this kind of behavior is mocked and recognized for what it is: antisocial and paranoiac.

Well, I'm saying *hopefully* because it could obviously go a lot of different ways. But I think the endemic phase is when the dream of Zero Covid or never getting it goes away once and for all. And the virus continues to evolve into less severe variants and we're able to settle into a new equilibrium where each person makes their own decisions about the level of risk and personal mitigation strategies that they are comfortable with. But it stops being the thing that we relentlessly focus on and funnel all decision making through. And ideally, but much less likely, we start respecting the decisions that other people make in this regard.

*This being the "next phase" is predicated on the hope that while this variant is highly transmissible that it will be much more mild and we'll see decreases in hospitalization and death rates, and that people believe that covid is not something to be feared.
