My working theory is the band wants to play this song (anything new) live starting next weekend. Releasing it as a holiday single now will prevent fans from freaking out about it being on the new album when all the YouTube videos come out after the shows.

they can be, but Ed chooses not to in the U.S. (see Fenway show where he apologized for anti-Trump reference and saying 'not wanting to be divisive')

It sounds like an Ed composition. Simplistic chord changes, guitars not really doing anything. There is no way anyone in the band actually believes this is good.

I was thinking the same thing. Do these guys seriously think they're still making interesting music? Are they trapped beneath Ed's mediocrity?

After one listen gotta say that I quite enjoyed that. Certainly far more interesting to me than anything on Lightning Bolt, and some kinda cool things going on there musically.

Really glad they seem to be exploring some different things here. Go the funk.

All-in-all a nice surprise.

I disagree. This sounds a lot like Soundgarden to me.

It sort of rings hollow to me that even though "Trump" is rich he can't deny "Poor Ed".
