I thought it as pretty good.
Spoiler: show
I think it starts really well and sets You up For a big finish
The finish was a bit ho-hum but it was great to see the originals at the end albeit very briefly
Paul Rudd was horribly wasted
The Walmart scene was where it started to go wrong
The driving down the Main Street scene was the highlight
Mckenna Grace was the star of this one

yeah, i got it but...Gozer comes again and they break up? It seemed weird. Also the first sequence with Egon felt unnecessary.
Spoiler: show
That's fair. As I get more distance from viewing, I do wish they had done more with Gozer if they were going to go with her/him as the villain again. She/he gets resurrected and then casually sits on his/her throne? That's it?

I thought the opening sequence was outstanding in setting the mood and coming up with a solid explanation for Egon's (lack of) presence. I'm generally adverse to resurrecting dead actors to do stuff like this but I thought they did a great job with his ghost during the climax. It got VERY dusty in the theater. Doesn't mean taking this approach is the "right" thing to do but it takes a lot to cut through my steel walls of cynicism and affect me emotionally these days. This did the job.

Spoiler: show
i wasnt really thrown off with Egon as a ghost. I think it worked fine maybe it was a little too much ...but i dont know really what was the point of the first sequence...i would have prefered to learn that Stuff with the characters

New characters with no dept, beat by beat moments with the original, cameos from the original movie, easter eggs...basically everything is a setup for making a remake of the original but for kids.

No comedy whatsoever, no funny moments, rushed sequences and a very divise finale for sure.

The looks good tough, the set pieces are great, and it was cool to see those guys again after so fucking long.
Spoiler: show
i loved Gozer, the ghosts, the demon dogs...i wish we got more of the guys...the kids were so boring. Carrie Coon and Rudd were ok, but i wish we got more of them too....and as a fan of Egon, i dont buy the whole farm thing....its weird he left those guys.
You and I saw different movies. Loved it aside from a slightly spotty third act.
Spoiler: show
Egon left them to save the world.
Team ensign. No idea what movie VG was watching. The humor was great. Dry. Subtle. My kind of humor and more in line with the original.

Definitely not beat by beat though obviously sometimes similar.

Kids were great. So was Rudd.

Thought the final act was the worst part and definitely cringey. Movie was great until the old cast showed up. That felt totally forced in. Though, depending on your cynicism in the moment, could be very touching and joyous

This was WAY better than expected but I set my expectations super low. Definitely fun and enjoyable with cringeworthy moments.

The humor in the new one has nothing to do with the original....the new one has this bland disney humor while the original was subversive as fuck. Ray even has a dream about a ghost blowing him!

The best gag in the new one is....fuck, im not sure there is a best one at all.

If you think a ghost blowing a dude is the ultimate in humor then maybe you missed the humor apparent in the first one.

Not much was lol. It’s smart. Snide. Cynical. This one has that in spades.

That was just an example of the subversive material that movie has. There are tons of great moments, none of which they were even hinted in the new one....which is super serious about everything. Its basically JJ Abrams mode of Super 8 really. Mostly touchy feely moments along with kid´s humor.

There was not even a hint of the humor of the first two movies, but that wasnt the idea either.

Like every Ghostbusters sequel, this movie made a very good argument for why Ghostbusters shouldn’t have sequels.

My thoughts exactly. The movie came to a grinding halt when the old cast showed up for the big ending fight. They were just standing there, off to the side waiting for their cue. And then the lame dialogue. ugh.
The way to fix that was to have them come in guns blazing when the kids needed help.

They did a great job with Egon's ghost. I would have thought it was the real guy if I didn't know he had passed.

McKenna Grace was awesome, total star.

Was a lot of drifting ECTO1 for some reason. But was so great to see it running again. The gunner chair was awesome.

Extra fun for me to watch this as most of it was filmed in my province, some even right here in town!

Egon’s ghost. The cgi was too good and not trying to mimic his voice felt right. Just a touching moment.

Saw this on the plane. I really wanted to like it but it’s forgettably so-so.
