I like it the way it is. Surprised there aren’t other instruments though. Maybe they tried it that way and it sucked?
Kinda surprised there's not a Kalimba on this...they clearly got one for Christmas

The sound of the acoustic on this through headphones is so good.

i also hoped for Stone, but anyway its very good.

Call me crazy - but this reminds me of Seasons a little bit (Cornell song from Singles). Seems to evoke or acknowledge it. Again - could be wildly off, but it keeps coming to mind when I listen to it.

Cornell had some amazing acoustic stuff after Soundgarden broke up for awhile...Through The Window is no joke one of my favorite songs of the last 10 years

I generally hate speculating about this stuff, but I had the same thought.

I generally haven’t been crazy about Ed solo type stuff (Uke songs, ITW), but I like this song.

The most emotional song since forever by this band. Made me tear up listening to it with the lyrics in front of me. Couldn't be more obvious that this is Ed's goodbye to Chris. And it's absolutely beautiful. 5 stars in every possible way.

Agree with that, also sad the reference that seemed to confirm there had been a falling out/drift apart between them, but the other references seemed to make it clear why. At least from Ed’s side.
Chris passing must’ve levelled him.

The Queen of Collections took your time
Sadness comes ‘cause some of it was mine
I love that set of lyrics. What a great way to describe processing the death of a love one

and the genuine melancholy of his delivery really brings it home.

collections of what?
some of "it" was mine? what is "it"?
I like the lines too but the sense is a bit murky

someone posted this earlier in the thread, but these verses are all constructed in a way that builds to a gut punch moment at the end of each verse. You cannot really measure until the end

Life/time. The queen of collections is death. Assuming this is about CC, the it is the part of his life that touched and defined Ed. The part of ourselves that lives in other people, that causes the hollow that's left when they die.
