That just seems like a complete lack of inspiration to me. It's already released and as far as I know was written a long time before that too. So between this and potentially Of The Earth, how many new songs have they actually written over the last 4 years?
parting ways was from the no code or yield sessions. I'm sure there are other examples of that too.
It's not a question of how many songs you write. It's a question of putting the best songs you have on an album. If a reworked sleeping with myself is really good then they should include it.
Funny, I don't remember Parting Ways already being released at the time.
I was equally annoyed at the inclusion of Can't Keep on Uke Songs and still always skip it to this day.
But that's because it sucks on uke songs and the full band made it a great song, maybe they can take a good uke song and make it great also. Im not thrilled with the choice if it is sleeping by myself, but i still can't wait to see what they do with it

4 actually. We had twins the second time around.
What we're doing is making sure we have enough kids that they can form a musical family band like The Jackson 5 or Hanson and pay for a nice house for us to move into in our old age, and probably some dentures too.

The shit people get pissy about...I am consistently amazed (why, I don't know) at how anxious people are to sabotage their enjoyment of a new album, or invent things to complain about.
Just A: wait for a tracklisting, B: wait to hear the song if it is on the record, C: judge whether or not it was inspired then.
there may be a very good reason to hate this, but we don't have it yet.
Why do you have to make so much damn sense stip
Yeah, he kinda knocked that one out of the park, really.

Exactly, it's an inferior version of a song already released. What's the point?
Could they really tackle this as well as they did Can't Keep? They were a pretty great creative band back then. Now, not so much...

I'm pretty sure Sleeping... was written in 2010-11 (but inspired by the same events as songs like Broken Heart, Goodbye, etc.)
For all we know, the Pearl Jam version may have been recorded around the same time.
AND, Ed conceived Can't Keep as a punk song. Look what PJ did to it. So, by an extension of that logic, Sleeping could be totally different.
I've fine with bands reimagining songs if there is a new dynamic. I'm pumped to hear what it sounds like.
I'm worried is sleeping is on the record it could end up overproduced like Speed Of Sound
Production is a concern of mine too. Especially after the last couple of records. But, like Stip said, I'll wait until I hear it before I start getting upset about it.
Me too. I've always given the band the benefit of the doubt. I've only ever gotten "upset" about one song and that was Sweet Lew so. ...lol my god I need to hear this leak!! If there is a leak.

Right now my daughter is the most important thing in the world to me (which I would only have started to say at about 5 months out or so), but being a parent sucks. It's such a fucking grind.

Well its one of the shortest songs on the uke album so one would think it ends up a fast paced punky number with the full band. I'm not so sure that excites me. The full band has played Setting Forth a few times but that sounded pretty generic. If they are going to put a uke song on the album it better have a completely different personality than what has already been released (Can't Keep). Otherwise, whats the point?

I'm the primary care giver though, during the week (getting up in the morning, getting to daycare, taking home, feeding dinner), and this is on top of the extra classes and stuff I need to teach to pay the bills. I totally get the second shift feminism argument now.

did you love the original gone? I think the band did an okay job turning it into a full number. I think there are just limits to how good a song gone was ever gonna be.

My only real problem with Gone is Matt's unsuitable drumming in the verses.
