I tend to think Ed tends to sound best on quieter songs when he embellishes his performance less and just sings something straight. I'm thinking of "Dead Man" and also Cat Power's "Good Woman" and "Evolution," and a lot of Into the Wild. For me things get a little cringe-y when he *performs* them. Some of these songs will grow on me for sure, and Olivia's are wonderful! But I don't think I want to listen to "Drive" again, despite what 15-yr old Tsuga would have said about it back in 1994.

A little more time with this and I Think of Angels, Dream, Tender Mercies and There's a Girl are the highlights for me. Its a nice little compilation but this won't get the amount of spins that Into The Wild got back in the day that's for sure.

Same feeling so far.

Absolutely. Some of the songs are missing the context of the movie right now, but they don't really work as standalone songs.

Is it okay if I love Drive? I suppose I guess it's a part of the fact that it's off the only REM record I can listen straight through.

Of course it's OK. It's a high point.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Guys, this doesnt have to be like into the wild.

First listen - Goddamn lovely but being a massive GH fan for so long now i am just in love with their collabs. Also, cat power is so wonderful.

the Drive cover feels out of place but im glad to have a cover of Ed singing a great REM song. He really does perform it quite a bit though. I actually like some of the instrumentation as ridiculous as it sounds. Kind of ear candy.

Tender Mercies is great.

On first listen my favorites are: I Think of Angels, Wave, Rather Be Home.

Ed's "Off He Goes" range has been shot for years even though he uses it a lot - compare it with his much better preserved mid range in the last 20 seconds of I'll Be Waiting.

There's a Girl and the Cat Power songs are probably my favorites right now.

Drive is totally fine. It's basically a beat for beat cover, which might work in the movie but isn't very exciting here.

I love the frames so much.

I still love eds voice so very much but i just picture him wiggling his jaw back and forth with every word he pronounces and it makes me feel like i have a vertigo maybe.

The accuracy of the picture Strat has painted is the exact reason I am hesitant to listen to this!
