I wish someone would document more about what happened leading up to August 1990, and the first studio recording of the tracks. We know some, but it’s usually just one or two undetailed lines about Stone and Mike talking about and eventually asking Jeff to join.

The bit about nostalgia and Ten being something different really hit home for me. And those final thoughts about our generation... goddamn. So well said, my man. Great piece.
Yes absolutely! Loved the write up.

And completely agree with the nostalgia bit. Part of me is nostalgic towards the yacht rock that came out between 84-86...the stuff i'd hear on the one rock radio station we got at the cottage. Those songs instantly take me back to a great time...but i wouldnt give them a second thought if i didnt have that connection.

Ten...and Pearl Jam in general are a completely different beast.

I am a shitty band historian, but I didn't know (or forgot) that Mike was on board before Jeff. I had assumed the two of them went searching for Mike

After Andrew Wood died, Stone wanted to move on from anything related to Mother Love Bone. He was a very prolific writer at the time, and had a list of tunes he was extra excited about. He had good chemistry with Mike, and had been really impressed with his guitar playing for years. He asked him to play with him, and they did so in the attic of Stone’s parents house. Mike really wanted Jeff in the band, and he knew Stone and Jeff were very close. Eventually Stone and Mike both talked to Jeff separately. Mike at a concert Jeff played at, Stone at the cafe Jeff worked in. Jeff agreed to join the band. In addition Stone asked Matt Cameron to play on the demos, both because he was the best drummer in town, and because they were working on Temple Of The Dog.

They found Ed through Jack Irons. They actually met him in LA, before he made the Momma-Son demo, in September 1990. They recruited Dave Krusen the same month. Ed then came to Seattle in October. They wanted him to come sooner, but he didn’t amswer his phone whenever they called him.

WOW! They even changed Eddies vocals on Release. It's a totally different take than the original, no "hurr durrs". Is anyone experiencing this or am I crazy?

Is this a 2021 Eddie vocal? WTF's going on?!

Double J is a digital radio station run by the ABC (that's Australian Broadcasting Corporation, our national broadcaster) for which us lot (the children of the 90's now aging rapidly) are the target audience. Its actually a damn good radio station, I listen in my car all the time.

Their classic album of the week is Ten owing to the anniversary. Here's a 60 minute thingy they did if anyone wants a listen:

Like....

Alive is track 3! After that better than anything solo/outro you get pummedled by the drum into to why go.

After getting your soul rocked you get treated to BLACK.....and then...JEREMY?!?! WTF.

It's so good it doesnt make sense.

And then this same band not 6 years later wrote/recorded No Code.

Then from there you still get Yield/Binaural.

Say what you will about the next few albums but even still 2002-2007 you got some of the best life altering shows.

Lol. Its laughable how good they were/are. A run like that....the band has earned the right to do whatever the fuck they want.
