B took Rob's post from the Corona thread and used his mod powers to spin it off into a new thread
No that's not true--Rob posted this as a standalone thread (by mistake), attempted to delete it but someone already replied, so now it stands.Jorge wrote:B took Rob's post from the Corona thread and used his mod powers to spin it off into a new thread
Timestamp is 9:26pm, I'm usually soaked in booze by then, so I don't really remember how it happened.Mickey wrote:No that's not true--Rob posted this as a standalone thread (by mistake), attempted to delete it but someone already replied, so now it stands.Jorge wrote:B took Rob's post from the Corona thread and used his mod powers to spin it off into a new thread
The merged posts really F'd this up.Jorge wrote:B took Rob's post from the Corona thread and used his mod powers to spin it off into a new thread
macphisto wrote:A) We’ll reclaim the word and use it as a term of endearment and in our art to take away its racist power.
B) We’ll ruin the life of any non-POC who utters those two syllables regardless of context or intent.
Choose one!
Sorry. I have a lack of brain capacity.Mickey wrote:Are you really going to make me explain this joke to you.B wrote:Plenty of Black people don't think Black people should use it.Mickey wrote:Jorge is POC he can say it

If the material of the post is sufficient, seems an appropriate analogymacphisto wrote:I’m glad you’re here, B, and I trust you’ll be taking swift and decisive action against these unprovoked, unwarranted, and fucking disgusting personal attacks.

I was spending time with them regularly while she was promoting the book, and I haphazardly began to use the term in casual conversation, wrongly believing myself to be some sort of insider ally.
I got over that mistake by myself a long time ago, but Albini spoke to the issue of misinformed ally-ship pretty thoroughly: My hunch is that the majority of non-Black people using the word now fall under four categories:
1. The former category I've just discussed
2. Overt racists
3. Closet racists like macphisto and schoolboy
4. People who get a pass because of certain contextual parameters (the BlacKKKlansman example)
FWIW, I think Burt gets lumped in with the first category, because he believes he's being an ally by defending free thought/free speech. I personally fail to see how anyone outside of the 4th group could use the term in good faith knowing that the impacts for Black people are multifaceted but probably 100% negative. The idea that a non-Black person is somehow helping them in their plight by taking power away from the word is one of the more idiotic concepts I've seen on this board.
I’ve reread this several times, even mouthing the words slowly to myself, and I still have no idea what you’re trying to say.E.H. I suspect in your case this is redundant.macphisto wrote:I’ve reread this several times, even mouthing the words slowly to myself
