back then your parents could buy your tickets for you and watch you go in the theater and then they could leave and do what not.

my dad drove close to an hour to take us to see Friday the 13th. it was probably about 20 minutes after he left that the girl opened the fridge and found the head on the shelf. when i say i lost my shit this is not some understatement. i think my scream scared more people than the actual movie did. my siblings were pissed. had to take me out of the theater and try to calm me down. i was unconsolable. they called dads house and let my step mom know what was going on. no sooner did dad get home that he got back in truck and headed back.

once he got there i was still a mess so he thought buying stuff for us would help calm me down. my brother and sister got records (an album and a few 45s i think) where as I got some bitching Lego Space station stuff.

i can still feel the ugly cry in my soul
Wait your dad drove an hour, dropped you off at a movie that clocks in at 1 hour 36 minutes, and drove an hour all the way home? Your dad may have some time management issues.
it was 1981. they were different times
Clocks worked differently?
You guys need to take your Adderall and let Peeps tell his story.
Huh?

If you’re gonna say Return to Oz didn’t absolutely terrify you as a kid, you’re a filthy dirty liar.

Still have nightmares about those guys on the wheels

I really liked this. I often don't like too-powerful superheroes in movies. This one nails it, because this Superman is only strong. He is not wise, he is not charming, he is not widely loved or especially intelligent or a natural leader or really even all that good at his job. Either of his jobs. He's kind of a loser, but the movie is not some triumphant character arc about him realizing that he doesn't have to be a loser and finally winning. He is just a strong dude, out there hustlin'.

And it's really funny and often touching.

I was not at all impressed with the trailers, but the movie is great

It's really silly and lighthearted. It's hard not to like. Some moments are totally bonkers. It also has a few beautiful moments but I'll be honest a lot of the film's aesthetic reminded me of those Trapper Keeper covers from the 90s with extreme closeups of iguanas playing volleyball under a lightning sky

I enjoyed it well enough but was bored during several stretches of the first two-thirds of the movie and found the music oddly thin (sounded like a solo Casio keyboard at times). We saw this in an absolutely packed IMAX theater and the atmosphere was pretty dead until a little more than halfway through the movie.

I did find myself having a weird reaction to the goofy tone, at least relative to other movies in the genre to date. There’s some retraining of the brain required, I think, to fully enjoy this if you loved the slightly harder edge of the MCU and DCEU movies.

The third act is mostly great and the cast and characters were pretty uniformly good throughout. Lex, Krypto, Guy, and #4 were the standouts.

The final needle drop as the end credits roll was outstanding.

The stuff with his Kryptonian parents was a pretty bold choice that served the plot well but felt a little odd. And I’ll never not be able to hear Richard Christy and his parents when Ma and Pa Kent are talking. Not sure that was the right choice.

I suspect I’d like it more on a second viewing but don’t currently have a strong desire to do so.

I thought it was a lot of fun. Comparisons to Superman The Animated Series are pretty spot on. I can understand the complaints from people that didn't like it I see the issues too they just didn't bother me at all.

Yeah, this was everything I wanted it to be. Superman felt pretty real. Not a god but a really really strong dude who can fly. I was worried the dog stuff would be irritating but it actually worked for me. I really liked that it was mostly about just being good without veering into soapboxing or self pity.

I slightly didn’t like Ma Kent because she felt cartoonishly rural and that’s a pet peeve of mine. But that moment between Clark and Pa Kent was genuinely touching.

I can appreciate the righteousness of Zack Snyder’s Superman. But I flat out love the goodness of Gunn’s.

I'm going to try to see this with my oldest (he's 8). Finally, a superhero movie I'm excited to see.

When was ‘legacy’ added? Is that official? It isn’t called that over this way. It’s just superman

Agree that Ma Kent felt way over the top until I remembered my father in law can't use a cell phone either.

I loved it.

Gunn really understands Supes circa 80s and 90sand the cartoons too.

It was refreshing to be in this world, full of color, action, superheros and villains with no need of explaining more. He was very smart not to do another fucking origin story.

Everyone in the cast was superb really, i had so much fun.

Cant wait for Supergirl.

Haven’t seen it yet but they better have kept the John Williams superman theme.
There’s no need to change it and it’ll fail for meif it’s not in there.
