It really sounds like that to me, it's a play on the kids' party game. Sit down, you're out. It's definitely Simon Says, and it's being used as metaphor for a preacher / leader.

Yeah, I listened to it a few times with my headphones and I'm pretty positive that it says Simon Says, and it makes sense and is nice little play on words..witty and sarcastic as Ed likes to do.

How good is Jeff's baseline and Ed's delivery in this song? To me, this is one of Ed's best vocal melondies. Loving this track so much right now - really gets the foot stompin'.

The harmonising guitars behind the voice of the last chorus are fantastic.

kinda dug this on first listen. ed sounds pretty good.

This is such a strange lyric--lizards are hardly the member of the animal kingdom that come to mind when you think of mindless, rapid-fire procreating.

Perhaps Ed is trying to bring a new elegance to the purely biological side of reproduction, trying to move it away from the skittish, almost aggressive pleasure-pounding suggested by the far cruder "fucking like rabbits" and towards the more curvacious, almost dancelike motions affiliated with the reproduction of certain reptiles, from whose leisure we can reasonably assume do not merely "fuck" but rather "make love."

I wonder if this is a throwback to "Faithfull," where he says "like geckos, that nobody hears"--perhaps he's implying the quiet, private manner in which these creatures repopulate the world with their own kind, the whole circle of life regenerating itself in private while we "upstairs" remain oblivious, distracted by "all of this noise."
