I think the key of all this discussion is that is you want danceable or fun there's plenty of music out there that fits the bill, you can get any 90s eurodance compilation and that will do the trick. Maybe at some point some of us went to PJ because we found in this band something we couldn't find elsewhere, but if from now on it's just going to be Shania Twain or One Direction but with Ed singing there's no point.

I wouldn't say there's no point at all. Pearl Jam doing The Who was always better than The Who doing The Who. And it was the same with all of their influences, for me. I don't like a bunch of bands they love, but filtered through them, it's great. PJ don't write big gay dance anthems, so I have to go elsewhere for that. And I occasionally like a One Direction song, but they're not sung by Eddie Vedder and played by this band, so they lack something. These songs are more comparable to Counting Crows than One Direction anyway, and still, PJ doing Counting Crows still has those PJ touches that makes it different.

I don't think it is the main point, but it adds a nice element, and is playing off against other, darker moments and are being sung by my favorite singer

It's not the main point. The main point is that it sounds like Pearl Jam, and I really like the sound of Pearl Jam.
