Wow, I have a total drum-bone. It's like a trombone but made of fucking wood.
Some people love this guy. I understand it but I've never really dug his style.
I've read Five Against One a few times (in which Dave is the only member of the band to talk to the author) and the only conclusion I can draw from it is that Dave A was never going to fit into that band. Ever.
well that's a pity, because their music has never sounded better than with him at the heartbeat imo (Ten tour, VS album & Tour, Vitalogy album)

I wholeheartedly agree. Musically Dave was the perfect fit for all but Ed. He worked with Ed but Jack fit like a glove.
With Dave the band was a freaking brick wall.

and the thing that bugs me the most, is EV acts like he's this massive honest, caring, whole-hearted guy who loves to communicate and all that, yet he didn't even have the balls to speak to or even fire Dave A himself. He didn't even give him a phone call or anything, had to get Stone to take him to breakfast and break the news to him
AND all these years later when he's much older he STILL won't even talk about it in PJ20

I know. You just hope they could have a little peace about it all. They shared so much in those years.

Yes. I'm a Jack Irons man through and through. I love Matt but I love him a lot more in Soundgarden. Dave's a great drummer but his style isn't my thing.

Dave was perfect for VS and Vitalogy, and from what I've heard he could have worked on No Code and Yield as well. He really is a great drummer.

What gets me is that, judging by the stories I've heard about why Dave was fired (an overblown taste and enthusiasm for fame and a "rockstar life"), he wasn't acting very differently from the way Ed is acting right now.

Guys, Jeff Ament has also gone on recorded saying he did not click or communicate well with Dave A because they both came from massively different musical backgrounds.

That's interesting.

Also, if memory serves me correctly, I think Dave A. is the only that has said he was fired because he was acting like a rockstar. Noone else in the band has said that was the reason for firing Dave.

Has IlluminEddie hacked Harmless' account? Hypocrisy you say.
Yeah I agree. And Ed's lyrics sound like he believes in the moment and not holding onto the negatives etc. Maybe there has been some peace found.

Didn't Ed say something about his kit being "too rock"?

Yeah, I had a feeling that Ed didn't like his style much either. Apparently this band dislikes everything their fans like about them

I don't really cry hypocrisy like he does. I never have. I think people have the right to grow older, look back and think "What a dick I was", and change their minds, even if I don't agree. But this one aspect has been on my mind lately. Granted, if I was in love with Matt as a drummer, I wouldn't care.

It's the taking a moral high ground on lots of external issues but seemingly being children with their internal relationships. Sure they've grown up a lot since then but have they? PJ20 says not.

Dealing with Dave a issues doesn't really fit with the story pj20 was trying to tell.

I think in five against one it said eddie thought he used too many cymbals. lmao.
I don't think he was fired purely for being 'too rockstar', it was probably a combination of things. He liked guns, didnt care as much aboput the ticket master stuff Plus 20 years later yadda yadda yadda people change.

For all we know Dave could have been a giant dickwad to ed though, maybe not and eddies just a childish twat but really, we don't know anything.

Ed DEFINITELY didn't like his style of drumming
listen to Matt's drumming today...that is exactly how Ed likes his drumming to be in his band. very unobtrusive and almost in the background. When Dave played drums he was in the foreground and took charge of the songs, I don't think Ed liked that
But i don't think he would have done better than Jack on No Code and Yield. Jack smashed those. He's got a groove that none of their other drummers had
