Platy's phonetic translations are possibly my favorite critical running joke.

I like infallible a lot but I agree that the verses tower over the chorus.

you can throw a pendulum, but I dont think a pendulum can throw. Certainly not to and fro. What would be the point of that?
If you put something on the pendulum, then you threw the pendulum then it would throw whatever you put on it.

Only 'to' though, no 'fro', unless it was tied to an elastic.

A bungee cord maybe.

To and fro the pendu-bungee throws.

yeah it could have been an awesome song, but alas...

After 4 months with LB, I seem to appreciate this album much more than I thought I would. Part of that is because I took a 3 month break from it but when I came back to it this week I realized that I still thoroughly enjoyed it... it wasn't just new album excitement clouding my initial perception.

I only ever had 3 main problems with LB from the beginning... 1) the lazy intro to Getaway, or just Getaway as an opener altogether, 2) the transition from MFS to Sirens, but mostly just because I felt like Sirens appeared too early in the tracklist, and 3) my ambivalence about whether or not I wanted to hear Future Days on the album or not. These issues were all easily fixed when I tried out a new tracklisting recently:

1. Mind your manners
2. My father's son
3. Getaway
4. Lightning bolt
5. Infallible
6. Sirens
7. Pendulum
8. Swallowed whole
9. Let the records play
10. Sleeping by myself
11. Yellow moon
(Optional)
12. Future days (lately, more often than not, I miss it if it's not there. It seems to have grown on me but I'd much rather hear Boom's dirty organ sound from the live version.)

All in all, I'm still very pleased with Lightning Bolt. At this stage in their career, they've made a very solid and respectable album.

Stones doing some sort of descending riff with a slide and some delay. Cool effect and adds a lot to the song.

Stip, is there an LAL for Lost Dogs in the works, or are we just sticking with the main studio releases? I know some people have said that they view it as sitting alongside the other albums, so I was just curious.

I meant to put one up and then real life intervened. Maybe after the march madness tournament.

If you wanted to start a new thread for it though, by all means :)

Yes, yes, and yes. We need to include Lost Dogs in all album conversations. It is a double album of original studio material. It is as essential as anything they've ever put out and is a crucial work that defines their creative abilities. Not mentioning Lost Dogs in album countdowns and comparisons is short-changing any discussion of their creative output. Do I have to beg?

And I hate when everyone says LB was their 10th album. It was their 11th! Had to get that one off my chest, I'm better now......

Well, Stip said he's fine with someone else making a thread, so I nominate Tuolumne, as it sounds like he's enthusiastic enough for it.
