The outro to that Lubbock Parting Ways is sublime, and totally Sonic Youth influenced.

Ed did it with them in one of theirs sets too....really nice... Mikey is pretty much in all of those shows doing some strange noises even in songs like Corduroy or Even Flow.

It wasnt surprising in the "jam" songs like RVM, Porch or Breakerfall for example, but to hear this weird little things coming from Mike and Stone in songs like Corduroy ( and not in the outro) was a shocker at the time.
Ed was also really invested in Jim O Rourke´s catalogue as well.

Now he listens to Bruce Springsteen...

I'm pretty sure he's been listening to Bruce Springsteen since the beginning.

yeah, i know i was joking.

But to be honest, i miss that SY influence they had on that tour. And Ed seems to have lost that capacity he had to invest his influences or what he was listening at the time in their music too.

Lubbock is pretty amazing.

Porch´s jam is fucking awesome...Stone kills it.

was there a show during this tour where members of sonic youth (lee ranaldo and/or maybe jim o'rourke) came out and played on parting ways? i was looking on two feet thick and couldn't find one, but i was sure it happened.

It was part of the Columbia pre-set.

From memory, Kim and Thurston had some kind of family emergency and couldn't play the show, so the other members of Sonic Youth joined Ed during his pre-set.

Check out the 9/5/00 preset as well. Trouble, Dead Man, Parting Ways, Naked Eye. I'd read about the presets in Europe 1996, but I never imagined seeing anything like that.
