Re: Let the drummer debate continue!
Matt is a beast with SG and I really like most of his studio work with PJ but he doesn't have the feel that Jack and the Daves had. Matt is a clock (usually, sometimes live that becomes a race) where as Jack was all feel. I felt Jack lacked some impact live.
As for Dave A, he's been a massive influence on my drumming. I wish I had the bounce and energy that guy has. He just lays down a groove and it just sits so right. Sure he hasn't got the abstract feels and tempo clock that Matt has but he's my fave PJ drummer. I'm sure he would have developed along with the band but you have to remember that he was a groove/funk guy playing in a rock band. Dave was always more RHCP than Nirvana/AIC.

Ska is one of those genre's I'm so proud to say I never got on board with. When all my friends in 96-97 were jumping off grunge and into ska/pop-punk I was the weirdo still listening to Pearl Jam. For a while there it was the dominant form of guitar music if you wanted to be in a band. Blah. Many of them now realize what a stupid fad it was but I thought it blew from day one.
My actual response when they first started playing No Doubt on the local alt-rock station: What is this shit?

Yeah, that whole group of bands was so completely awful.

I empathize with this. I tried so hard to like Reel Big Fish, but it was a lost cause.darthvedder81 wrote:Ska is one of those genre's I'm so proud to say I never got on board with. Whenever someone mentions Ska, it always makes me think the band that has someone playing a trumpet and a fat dude in a Hawaiian shirt and a pork pie hat. I'm not sure why.

Can we get back on topic, and discuss how amazing Jack Irons is with Pearl Jam?

Jack Irons should be rehired as the dude who dances on stage.

He'll have to wear a Hawaiian shirt. He's probably fat now anyway.cutuphalfdead wrote:Jack Irons should be rehired as the dude who dances on stage.
