Both fine examples. The difference between Screaming Trees and an album like Blues Funeral is vast.

True. I like a few songs from the Scream album. I dont quite like the production...but the idea was cool.
And yes, Lanegan is the man.

Glad I got see him play last night. It was my second & he played the Symphony Hall, very nice place. But I actually enjoyed my first time more a couple years ago when he played a smaller, less nice theater. Part of the reason was the Higher Truth songs but he also had a much better crowd the first time. Some people just don't know how to behave at a quiet acoustic show.

I've got no interest in checking this album out, but I do have to wonder, VinylGuy, how do you plan to try getting into this album if you've only ever listened to it once?

I don't think it's crazy to be reasonably certain something isn't your thing after one listen.
Life is short, I'm generally not going to spend time listening again and again to something that didn't grab me in some way on first listen.

I'll usually give something a few spins even if I don't particularly care for it on first listen. It's just to make sure I didn't miss something I actually liked. Sometimes my mood on first listen will effect the way I respond in a unique way. I have gone back to albums that I initially thought I didn't care for to find that there are actually things there that I quite like. However, if I definitively don't enjoy something on first listen, I won't worry about listening again.

There's definitely many albums that didn't completely click for me on first (or third or tenth) listen but that I kept being drawn back to for one reason or another however I think it's pretty clear when something just isn't for me.

I agree, it's just that VG's phrasing made it appear that he wanted to try to like the album. In that case, I think he's going to have to give it at least another listen.

Yeah, Chris is one of my favorite artists from the 90s, so pretty much everytime he release something i wanna listen to it a few times. I actually give an album a few spins to know if im interested...with this one, i just don feel like it. I mean there are like what...13 songs? 13 new songs from a guy i admire and i dont feel the urge to listen to it.

This fellow is in town for 2 solo shows in early Dec. I can grab a pair for $244 Aus (about $38 US). I'm not a SG fan at all but I am a casual CC listener.
Should I pull the trigger?

His shows are amazing...i just dont get why he feels he has to do a more polish version of what he does live.
