Have fun. You'll probably love it

The more I think about this movie the angrier I get

After initially being excited to see this, I have a feeling it's terrible, but I kinda want to hatewatch it. Is that a thing? hate watching something?

while it did not live up to my sky high expectations that was fun. Tonally very different. Valkyrie stole the movie.

Tonally VERY different?

That's a weird takeaway to me. It's pretty tonally consistent with the last several Marvel movies, only about 15% sillier (which is to its detriment IMO)

Valkryie is cool but I found her arc underdeveloped and very unconvincing. They probably shot more stuff with her that had to be cut to make space for more terrible and out-of-character jokes

I've thought about it some more and the only thing keeping this hovering above bottom-tier Marvel movies like Ant-Man and Dr. Strange is that it has tiny sparks of ambition sprinkled throughout. It just does nothing with them

this felt almost farcical in places (as opposed to referential, thank god) which is not something weve seen before. its the mixing of characters that dont take themselves seriously with a story that does that’s odd, and it took me a little while before i was able to slide into the perspective of the movie based on my normal expectations for what these movies usually are. it was challenging (for a certain value of challenging) in that respect

im seeing this again next week. itll be interesting to see how this does on a second viewing knowing what to expect

Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

-welp, fuck I liked it. It was refreshingly different.

-It was mostly really funny , though not always. Most of the actors have great charisma (minus the insufferable Mary Sue valkyrie chick) . The action was surprisingly cool too.

-Hulk was a bit too cornball.

-I thought Jeff Goldblum would be out of place, and he was, but I was cracking up at every scene he was in. I just love Jeff Goldblum.

-Didn't feel as calculated as GotG does. I hate those movies so much. This is more my speed.

-Cate Blanchett was a bit over the top but fine.

- the music, as in all Marvel movies, is shit.

nailed it.

Thank you for that insane last sentence. I was worried I might agree with you on a movie.

I liked it. Not my favorite MCU film by any means (not even close), but a fun "turn your brain off" action flick. I laughed quite a bit.
Spoiler: show
Hulk having full conversations in cave man speak felt a little too cheesy even for a movie that embraced the cheese.

3.5 outta 5

i liked it but i thought that it was more of a showcase for thors humor than thor being the odinson

i want to see screen shots of the crowds of sakaar and see what aliens they hid in there.
Spoiler: show
matt damon scene was great

A few of my friends have been assigned the role of certain avengers: I'm the Hulk and my friend is Thor. The banter between the two in this movie hits a little close to home cuz it read just like the two of us when we're sarcastically giving each other shit

God, that was an excellent way to spend a couple hours. It wasn't Hamlet (hey, Kenneth?) but it didn't need to be. It's a Marvel movie ffs.
Spoiler: show
The little play at the beginning was just aces. There was a trailer for Downsizing right before the film started so that little cameo (no pun intended) was extra hilarious. I loved that they had Sam Neill (who was in Waititi's last movie) as Odin and Chris Hemsworth's brother Luke as Thor. Also, was it because I just finished The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul that I thought putting Odin in a home was a nod to Douglas Adams?

Stayed for the credits scenes. The first one was a whole lot of wtf and the second one was great. "Let's call it a tie."

So concerning the 'fake' room of trophies:
Spoiler: show
I get that it explains away the infinity gauntlet from the first Thor movie but what about the other stones that were in there? Granted I lost count of them all and their current locations but I am pretty sure that at least one of them is with the Collector and yet it was in there and Loki seemed to be happy to see it. Wouldn't he be able to tell if it were fake?
The scene with Thor getting pummeled like in the first Avengers and Loki losing his shit was just aces.
