5) Most of this could have been prevented if any of that family had any sense at all. Steven seems like the intelligent one of the bunch. They seem to generally be fucking clueless about everything, and they're just taken advantage of the whole way though. "What's 'inconsistent' mean, mom".... "uh... I don't know, Brendan". Jesus.
Yeah, that was heartbreaking. And didn't they say at one point Steven's IQ was 70?

You're a good man, Ruddo.
We need more like you.

I rewatched about 3 episodes with my wife after I made her watch it.
Thoughts-
1) I do find it hard to believe that the cops straight up killed her and framed Avery for it.
Are people actually saying that though? That's absurd. I haven't seen/heard anyone saying that.
It's what Krantz said you had to believe in order to believe the frame up. The biggest problem with the framed-by-the-cops theory, is who killed her, then ? Outside of the evidence that screams being planted, there really isn't any that points to Avery, so if not him, then who?

And how the hell do they get away with taking over that entire property for like 8 days after they arrest him? There's a bunch of people that lived there, it's a business, and they just shut it down indefinitely? There has to have been some rights violated there....

Exactly. That's the big question. And since the judge prohibited the defense from bringing up other possible suspects, the documentary doesn't give us much to go on.
There are some likely candidates, I think. But that's all speculation on my part. All I know for sure is that the cops did not kill her. They did plant evidence. But it's still possible Avery did it. I just don't think so. But either way, I believe the cops planted evidence.

I don't think the cops killed her, either, but how exactly do you know "for sure"? If they planted evidence to the scale alleged, is it really that much of a leap do think they completely orchestrated the whole thing, including the worst part?
And yes, it's still certainly possible Avery did it. But man, he'd have to be one smart dude to keep his story straight that long, clean up everything he cleaned up (or kill her with so little evidence), and keep up the act that he's such a pawn. I think that's almost as hard to believe as the cops killing her

Okay, you're right. It's possible they killed her. But I just don't believe that. It doesn't make any sense. There's less likelihood in my mind that the cops killed her than that Avery killed her. And I think there's like a 2% chance Avery did it.

You'd have to put Thomas Kocourek, the former sheriff, and the former district attorney, Denis Vogel near the top.

Oh yeah, forgot about those guys.... list edited above... Not sure I'd put them too close to the top, though.
What was that guy's name who drew the sketch of Avery in 85? He's horrible as well

I read the other day that Steven has a new defence team and their theory is that whoever deleted the messages on Teresa Halbach's phone probably did it. Plus apparently the ex-boyfriend in the 2nd episode (who was never questioned) is seen with scratch marks across his hands.....

Well, those 2 guys are responsible for railroading Avery with the false rape charge. They put out a code-red to deny all other potential suspects and evidence. And, it was clear who the main suspect was anyway - they'd been tracking him every day. And, what happens the day he doesn't get followed? He rapes that woman. Then, while Avery's locked up the real rapist is a free man with the potential to rape many more women.
Its all speculation - but, we don't get the mess of the second case if the first is resolved as it should have been.

Good points. It may have all started with them. But, so there's so many to choose from !
Have you ever seen a real life set of such bad people all involved in the same mess?
