Like a thousand years before The Battle of Yavin, the planet was lush. Instead, the energies released decimated the planet, ultimately turning it into what we see in Sith.

Between Ep 3 & 4, Vader (now living on Mustafar) tried to use the Bright Star to resurrect Padme. A descendant of Lady Corvax stopped him. destroyed the Bright Star, and allowed Mustafar to begin healing. By the time we get to TROS, the planet is more like how it used to be before Corvax wrecked it.

Most of the time I think I know a fair amount about Star Wars, but then I'll read posts like this (or try to watch the first episode of Ahsoka) and realize I have zero clue

They filmed a fair bit with Kylo exploring it. I guess looking for that doohickey we see him beating up those troops for in the opening scene of ROTS.
Sadly we’ll never see those scenes.
