I thought the conversation was about lyrics. He never seemed to try to reach great heights as a musical composer. There are a few moments, but most of them I feel were just the band adding to a sketch of his.

I wasn’t overly fussed initially but I’m actually getting more and more excited about this.
The collaborations don’t excite me much but if we have a couple more “Brother The Cloud” quality songs I’ll be happy .
“Good & evil” and “rose of Jericho” seem to be getting positive feedback from the reviews.
“The haves” seems to be the only ballad.
Bring it on!!

Thank you Hatfield for going through the trouble of posting the article! And thanks Buby for the tip to get around the NYT firewall.
I feel a little more excited for this album now. I also find it interesting that while Eddie was pressed to say more, it sounded like he still managed to evade questions.

im really exited. Damn, its been a good two years since Gigaton and we had music from Ed, Jeff, Stone and we are getting this one and another Painted Shield joint soon.
Good times, good times indeed.

The title "Rose of Jericho" sparks the same hopefulness that "Who Ever Said" did before Gigaton came out. It's a song title that makes me want the song to be great.

Hey, I'm tempering my hope for something like Rose of Jericho by telling myself we actually already got it in Brother the Cloud.

Brother the Cloud brought me from a place with the first two singles or pessimistic to a place of neutral. I am back to lacking any expectations. Let’s see how it goes.

I find it impossible to think that anyone who anticipates that this album will contain "a few nice surprises" based on what we've heard so far could be accused of being anything other than a wide-eyed optimist

To borrow from the ever-fraught "favorite vs. best" line of thinking, I expect that Brother the Cloud will either be my favorite song on the album or the best song on the album.
That said, I'm expecting at least one more nice surprise that makes a similarly compelling claim for "favorite" or "best."
Don't think I'd dare let myself expect a full
few nice surprises.

You guys know it’s okay and quite possible to get your hopes up, find enjoyment, be let down, and go on with life as if everything is still okay ? I appreciate everyone’s concerns though. I’ll let you know if I end up in a deep depression should earthlings be the worst thing to ever hit my earbuds !

is this the most negative KD post of all time?!
KD, you alright man? Everything ok at home?
Totally okay -- good even! That wasn't an overwhelmingly negative post, was it? It was meant to be lighthearted; I don't at all think a few good songs are beyond the realm of possibility, though personally I haven't been excited by Ed's solo efforts for quite a while.
