...Eddie Vedder has somehow transformed in the past decade into the biggest nerd in rock music. Not only is he an enormous dork now, he's also completely stamping all over the minimal remains of his legacy. Not only did the PJ 20 movie paint the band as an 80s glam rock band, but now we're seeing the truth in that as they slowly tear off the flannel to reveal their spandex and cheese.

That said, I admit to being duped until a decade ago. You didn't need to be a socialist to appreciate someone standing up for something they believe in. They did that and I thought it was cool, when I was an innocent kid. I know I wasn't alone. Now-a-days, I look at him and wonder why I ever trusted him, and wonder why I ever thought this tool was cool. I knew he was an actor, but this extreme of a turn around? It's kinda amazing.

The whole thing is pretty humorous. Salesforce.com, Oracle, Target... I love hearing the "new excuse" for each, while reciting his old lyrics. Gets better and better.... and none of the defense has to come from him... it's the mirror Eds that do the heavy lifting having to defend his ridiculous hypocrisy. All he has to do is come around and say, he was innocent when he was younger and didn't know any better...

but why I expect more from this dolt?

Guys, PJ were never Fugazi, they were suckling off Sony's tits for years. You all know that. It's foolish to take this band face value. The Salesforce gig is just boring old rich rock stars doing boring old rich rock star things. They all do it. But, I can't begrudge someone getting money. It was probably a kick ass work party.

And like Spence said a few pages back, for me this place isn't all about the band. It's all you nudniks that keep me coming back.

Just to clarify, I think there is a lot of positivity about PJ on this board. What stip and others wish was here was a more positive outlook on a specific period of the band's career. This is not a board that's blatantly negative about Pearl Jam in any way, shape or form, and from my limited experience in boarding with other groups and general music boards, this is not even close to the most negative board I've encountered.

On the contrary, it's by far the best I've seen, which makes the conversation kind of frustrating. There is a lot of good discussion on this board by people that are passionate about music and are able to write in such a way that illustrate their thoughts in an informative and entertaining way. You don't get that type of quality on 99.9% of the bullshit on the internet. And it's often funny as hell. So to hear that this place is a cesspool or devolved from some high plateau it used to straddle personally strikes me as just plain false. I have to disagree with stip in the sense that I think the frustration of this place stems far more from the type of criticism being offered (more critical or negative) rather than its quality.

I'd like to think, in all humility, that I started this line of criticism back in '03 when I went on the Pit and pointed out the hilarious irony of Ed writing a song about the evils of driving an SUV while touring the country in a private jet. The usual 200 post cacophony of stip-like apologists followed before Kat herself responded: "No private jet? Do you want them to play anywhere outside of Seattle?" (true story)
