Re: Arcade Fire
I feel like one reason Race and Religion is trying to be the last "big statement" is that it seems to be written by Regine (is it?) and evokes she and Win's relationship / marriage, where Lookout Kid is between father / parents and son, so the trifecta with "We" is about family, which is really nice; I can see why, as co-writers and spouses, they might have ordered it that way

Re: Arcade Fire
I see why you have mixed feelings about it. I do too. Very similar to Electric Blue. Maybe it'll be a growerMs Harmless wrote:I feel like one reason Race and Religion is trying to be the last "big statement" is that it seems to be written by Regine (is it?) and evokes she and Win's relationship / marriage, where Lookout Kid is between father / parents and son, so the trifecta with "We" is about family, which is really nice; I can see why, as co-writers and spouses, they might have ordered it that way

Re: Arcade Fire
two notes on the ambient noise (because why not, this is Arcade Fire):
"Prelude" -- is that the sound of fireworks? I like that and what themes it makes me think of: celebration, love, ritual, race, religion
*right* at the end of "We", after some silence and before the album starts again, there's a soft echoey synthesized sound that (and hear me out here) sounds like the "we" from "we can reach the sea" from Black Wave / Bad Vibrations; is it that? no idea, but it made me smile to wonder

I saw them twice at the Reflektor tour, and they were awesome.
Been Lucky enough to get to see them four or five times now. Kinda over their entire career.
They just speak to something in me I dunno. Always just so happy when I get to see them.
Calibrate your enthusiasm

Re: Arcade Fire
in EotE, there's a little accordion (?) melody just literally one time, that sounds like the "Aaaaa-aaaa-" part of Wake Up

Re: Arcade Fire
I'm hoping to go to Dublin late August / early September, and it turns out they're playing there then; it's gonna be me, my partner, and my mum, so I don't think it'll happen, but I'm already regretting it

Re: Arcade Fire
There are some great live shows up on YouTube. Enjoyed watching real loud with the wife recently. I'm not sure being there is any better than that, if you have a good sound system. But going to Chicago sounds fun. But expensive. Probably won't go.

Re: Arcade Fire
I question the politics behind the statement "I'll be your race...", it's a bit fluffy, but Regine has Haitian heritage so... undecided

Re: Arcade Fire
Yeah, just watched an interview with Win about the album. Apparently he was thinking about Haitians attempting to get into USA when writing the Lightning songs. He hates the Texas governor very very much. Says if there's a hell he's going to it for his cold treatment of immigrants.

first impression is that is really good yeah. After two long albums, it helps this one clocks in 40 min.

Something about Age of Anxiety is also slightly reminding me of the vibe on War On Drugs’ I Don’t Live Here Anymore album from last year.VinylGuy wrote:first impression is that is really good yeah. After two long albums, it helps this one clocks in 40 min.

Re: Arcade Fire
End of the Empire starts out so sad and depressing but then explodes into this great fun anthem
