I have a lot of thoughts but all are spoilery, so I won't get into them. But the lead kid and his dad both give absolutely outstanding performances and overall I liked the film. But it probably doesn't make my top 5 of the year, regardless of how I enjoyed it.

Glad you finally saw it. That ending...powerful performance. The kid is a fuckin Star.
It’s so beautiful though. Haven’t had a film transport me so fully into its setting and feeling in a long time.
Ladybird transported me and to a stronger degree. But otherwise, I agree, this movie does a tremendous job of that. The last 30 minutes of the movie are just wonderful. The ending, yes. And it is a really good movie. Definitely deserves to be in the conversation for best of the year.

For me it’s a better movie by far than Darkest hour (stellar Oldman aside not an amazing film) And almost all the other nominees. In the craft of filmmaking and that transportive sense which none of the others did nearly as well, Dunkirk aside.

I do not understand at all what shape of water is doing in this category. I just didn’t enjoy it as much
But if its a soft entry for genre like sci fi into the category, at last, that’s a good thing.

I'm certainly in favor of genre being more recognized. For sure. But I also adore The Shape of Water. I think it's a beautiful and emotional film.

Hostiles. This movie steadfastly refuses to be interesting. Lot of unearned drama and tired tropes.

Bale is good though, and I don't even like Bale.

You still should. Burt hates everything.

The only Scott Cooper film I've seen is Crazy Heart. And (surprise, surprise!) I loved it.

Molly´s Game.

Great movie. Chastain is at the top of her game. She is pure cinematic bliss.

I'm glad that you and LV can still bond over your mutual hatred of Jessica Chastain. It's... I don't know, comforting.

I mean... I never mean that word the way that you and Verm mean it, but yes. I agree.
