I'm loving ambient bits at the beginning of most songs...that was definitely missing on the last few records

I'm very pleased. Still digesting some of this but the production is fantastic. They took some chances on this one. Some paid off, some maybe not as much, but I appreciate that. It's no Backspacer or LB, that's for sure.

Who Ever Said - **** 1/2
Superblood Wolfmoon - *** 1/2
Dance of the Clairvoyants - *****
Quick Escape - *****
Alright - ****
Seven O'Clock - **** 1/2
Never Destination - ***
Take The Long Way - *** 1/2
Buckle Up - ****
Comes Then Goes - ****
Retrograde - *** 1/2
River Cross - ****

With the exception of the two singles these are initial rankings....I definitely agree with the sentiment that this album does lose some momentum in the second half, but the first half is absolutely glorious and definitely right up there with the best stuff the band has done in forever.

About 3 minutes away from what appears to be the worst song on the album. What a ride. Bring it on Retrograde.

Not all the songs are winners, but Gigaton definitely has a wider sonic palette and much more ambition than the last several albums. Pleasantly surprised, I really was expecting "Lightning Bolt pt.2 + a couple small departures".

"Superblood Moonwolf" and "Rivercross" are probably the weakest tracks here (the latter isn't bad -- just kind of boring).

Edit: "Comes Then Goes" is also kind of bad

yeah that springsteen influence is really apparent on 7 oclock. This, DOTC, the Zeppelin influence in gigaton. A lot of these songs really wear their heroes on their sleeves
