No, I agree, I think it’s probably been transcoded and seems a bit lacking quality-wise.
Yes it definitely sounds transcoded. A vaguely hollow sort of sound.

First listen of the Gigaton. That was great, a lot different than the last few albums. I was expecting more of a Binaural/Riot Act vibe, think we got more of a No Code/Yield thing, which is equally as great. Very excited.

Retrograde just kinda exists...

I really like what they did with River Cross

I think I probably do too, but we will see how it continues to age. I still don't like "Superblood Wolfmoon" and am kind of meh on "Clairvoyants"

My "First Impressions-Only One Listen In-Way Too Early For This Shit-Don't Hold Any Of This Against Me" Rankings:

1. Dance of the Clairvoyants
2. Quick Escape
3. Comes Then Goes
4. Alright
5. Take the Long Way
6. Superblood Wolfmoon
7. Who Ever Said
8. Seven O'Clock
9. Retrograde
10. River Cross
11. Buckle Up
12. Never Destination

The biggest early-take issue I have with this is maybe the sequencing. I don't love that it feels like two EPs put together: Fast Side/Slow Side. I know Ed likes to do that but I think the album might be a bit top heavy. I wish they'd spread some of those hard hitters throughout. I wonder how the end of this record will age for me.

Still, a great first impression. Hands down their best LP since Riot Act and it's not even close. This has so much room and ambiance and atmosphere. The songs go to unexpected places. There's great layering. The production is such great -- such a breath of fresh air after the last three.

Worth the wait. This is a 4 Star First Listen. Thank you Pearl Jam and welcome the fuck back!!!

I love LB a lot. Backspacer is my least favorite PJ album though, so I kinda figured I'd like this more than that.

Still, I love LB and S/T. So making that statement isn't just a jaded fan shit talking past efforts. I think Gigaton is really great -- or rather, made a really great first impression. We'll see how it ages and how I feel after my hyperbole has calmed down a bit. But I feel pretty confident that it's not gonna drop below the last three.

retrograde is maybe the weakest song in here - may have worked better if it appeared earlier. first song that felt longer than it needed to be
