I think we know exactly what this album is going to sound like. It’s going to sound like slightly different flavors of the first three singles. Maybe some pleasant surprises thanks to the influence of new collaborators, and some disappointing stuff. A mix of Ed rockers, Ed mid tempo, and Ed ballads. Hopefully much less of the latter and more of the former.

This quote really sums up Eddie's recent writing in a nutshell to me. "I don't write the songs; the songs write themselves through me." He seems to really value this first-thought-best-thought, "just get lost in the inspiration," "watching Stevie Wonder play was like watching him become one with the music," etc., metaphysical gobbledygook, and man does the music ever sound like it.
I don't have anything to add, but this is a good observation and I agree 100%.
it's the neil young way of looking at songwriting. you're just a vessel for capturing the muse.
sometimes i totally agree with that and sometimes i think it's a huge copout.
except Neil Young knows more than many about honing songwriting craft, too... if he believes songs are a gift, he also believes (imo) that he has a responsibility towards it

I've still not listened to them. Maybe we should have a listening party in chat one night.

Funny. I hit the point now where I am ready to wait and experience it as a single document. I lack that sort of patience with new Pearl Jam music but I look forward to hearing it all at once for the first time.

I'd like to see a full video of them playing "Hard Sun", I'd forgotten how much I liked that song

I'm half expecting to be pleasantly surprised by how eclectic it's sounding
