It was a bad mistake. That guy is not a hero. The Soviets/Stalin etc. have done horrible things to Ukraine, but fighting for the SS was never right.

This is still true:

It's coming up on 80 years for D-Day and VE day in the next year and a half, and in about two years time, it will be 80 years since the end of the war. Still it shapes what nations do, is part of what makes wars.

Do not hear the same about WW1 anymore. Perhaps because everyone from the war is now dead.

When did the last soldier from ww1 die?
The last combat veteran was Claude Choules, who served in the British Royal Navy (and later the Royal Australian Navy) and died 5 May 2011, aged 110. The last veteran who served in the trenches was Harry Patch (British Army), who died on 25 July 2009, aged 111.

WW1 ended 11 November 1918. WW2 ended September 2, 1945. Roughly 27 years apart.

There are certainly right-wing accounts doing this, but I don't think that's the broad intent in the critique. There is a truth somewhere between the propaganda from both sides and in US we have an older generation burned from the war in Vietnam and a younger one from the recent Iraq/Afghanistan war that is increasingly wary of information and media on conflicts that seem to be tied to our group identity obsession.

In Just a Few Hours: Russia Loses Nearly 1,000 Soldiers

According to Ukraine, a Russia has lost nearly 1.000 Soldiers over the last 24 hours. This is reported by The Kyiv Independent, referring to the morning update from the Ukrainian General Staff.

According to Kyiv, Russia has lost 820 soldiers within the last 24 hours. This brings the total Russian losses since the escalation of the war of aggression in February 2022 to 283,900.

Russia has also lost military equipment, including 9,220 armed vehicles (+91), 9,145 vehicles and tankers (+20), 4,863 tanks (+34), 6,731 artillery systems (+18), 5,226 drones (+19), 809 multiple rocket launchers (+1), 316 airplanes (+1), 316 helicopters, 1,530 cruise missiles, 545 air defense systems (+1), 965 pieces of special military equipment (+4), 20 boats, and one submarine.

Blackout in Russia: "Reality knocks on the door"

According to Ukrainska Pravda, citing sources from the Ukrainian intelligence service SBU, Ukrainian drone attacks led to power outages in the Russian region of Belgorod by damaging the power supply.

"Reality is knocking on their door," said an intelligence officer, as reported by n-tv.de.

The power outages are affecting Russian military bases north of the border with the Ukrainian Oblast of Sumy. Additionally, Russian forces in the Belgorod region are launching missile and artillery attacks on Ukraine.

Russian attacks unsuccessful
The Ukrainian army has described Russian attacks in the northeast of the country as 'repelled' and 'unsuccessful.'

Political experts, citing images on social networks, reported attacks on Avdiivka and suggested that the Russians have apparently suffered significant losses in military equipment, as n-tv.de reported.
