They said the same thing about Better Call Saul before it came out and that’s borderline better than Breaking Bad.

There’s no doubt it’s better than Breaking Bad.tragabigzanda wrote:I think it's easily better than BB, though I was immediately intrigued by those details when they first came out; I saw great potential in the story behind Jimmy.Jammer XCI wrote:They said the same thing about Better Call Saul before it came out and that’s borderline better than Breaking Bad.

What did you feel for Walter White?tragabigzanda wrote:Well it was already an unnecessary story. And the two clips I've seen -- of what's-his-name in the interrogation room, and Jesse crying in the car -- look like they're really trying to hammer in on the tragedy of Jesse's arc...
Which I never much cared for to begin with. I always found him to be an extremely unsympathetic character, and while Paul turned in an excellent performance, I think that Pinkham as he was written was mostly a shit. It was tough for me to feel much of anything other than contempt for him during BB, so this apparent grab for my empathy feels like a stretch.
But who knows. Maybe it'll be great. I'll still watch it, because at least I'll get to see Badger again.

Are you talking about the trailer of him sitting in the El Camino listening to the radio? I wouldn't say "looks amazing" from that, but ok.VinylGuy wrote:NEW TRAILER OUT AND LOOKS FUCKING AMAZING

Re: TV: Breaking Bad
that you feel contempt for Jesse and loved Walter I think is the beauty of this show; people love the guy who breaks bad and hold contempt for the guy who gets good just because he stands in the way of Walter. After Jane's death and Jesse getting clean, how can you not love him?tragabigzanda wrote:Loved him. Wouldn’t say I condoned his turn to Heisenberg, but his entire arc resonated with me.Mecca wrote:What did you feel for Walter White?tragabigzanda wrote:Well it was already an unnecessary story. Hmm. I felt for Jesse immensely because of Walter master manipulation of him and everyone around him.tragabigzanda wrote:I agree it was nice to see Jesse develop some sort of moral compass as the show went on, but it still felt very self-serving, which he’d been from day 1. Watching his interactions with his family, and then the whole stretch of debauchery in his house with the cash, the drugs, etc...He was always like a feral dog to me, entirely interested in his own appetites and self preservation, which never felt earned given his comfortable upbringing.
Maybe he’ll go work for Habitat For Humanity in the movie and I’ll be able to empathize more. But as it stands, his battles with Walter struck me as kind of pointless, and his escape at the end felt fairly unfulfilling.

At some point none of those decisions were his own (pinkman) but rather the warped sense of reality he became a part of through walters mind games and control.

Re: TV: Breaking Bad
I mean, his upbringing didn't seem all sunshine and comfort to me. He was a problem child for sure, but that's not an atypical thing for middle class parents thinking that they gave everything that a kid could want, so why would he turn to drugs. He also grew up taking care of his aunt that was dying of cancer when no one else would; his family then went behind his back to try and take away the house that she wanted to leave to him even when they weren't there for her in her time of sickness.tragabigzanda wrote:I agree it was nice to see Jesse develop some sort of moral compass as the show went on, but it still felt very self-serving, which he’d been from day 1. He was beaten down for different reasons than Walter.
