It's bizarre that Billy finally reunited 3/4 of the original Pumpkins line-up, something that would've once seemed impossible, and yet has seemed content to keep churning out the same over-processed, unmemorable techno-rock stuff that could have anyone playing on it.
He was trying to write more 'classic Pumpkins'-y material without those guys in the band!

Single is growing on me. Verse is pretty punchy, and I like the way the vocals are mixed. Not huge on the chorus hook though. And it's pretty corny.

It seems like he got what remained of the 'classic Pumpkins' itch out of his system with Oceania, which was obviously terrible timing without Jimmy (and to a certain extent, James). Then when Jimmy returned, he had a very "play only what the song needs" approach, while almost all of Billy's songs were stripped back attempts at aping his 80's heroes.
It's a recipe for disappointment.

The new single kinda sounds like a White Zombie ripoff. So does the song Empire they played last night at the Metro.
I'm not excited at all by this epic album, ATUM.

"Empire" might be cool in the studio. If there's just a handful of tracks I like from this guaranteed-to-be-bloated album I'll consider it a win.

I listened to bits and pieces. Billy is a bit of a cringemine and I'm on the fence about the concept angle, but I'll give it a full listen at some stage.

No joke, about a week ago I was thinking of changing my avatar to old man/racoon Billy. That's excellent.

I gave Zeitgeist a spin yesterday for the first time ever and it really isn't a bad album. Haven't really cared about Pumpkins after Machina so never really gave it a chance. But compared to anything I've heard from them (Billy) in the past ~10 years Zeitgeist is a masterpiece.
Is the new single supposed to be from the Mellon collie II album? If it is, the album is really going to suck.
But I like those two Jimmy Chamberlin Complex albums. I love Bill Medleys vocals on Lullabye. Saxophone is way too low in the mix in the latter album though.

Im enjoying the podcast a lot…second ep is good once you pass all the sci fi story about the concept of the album
The song they preview was also interesting, butterfly suite… really cool
And then a very good and deep insight into Eye

Oof. The verses are awful. I love the chorus, though.
Yet another Billy track that is merely almost good, with too many conflicting ideas being its downfall. It's not enough to hit us with an endless barrage of word salad, he also insists on attempting to blend styles within songs and failing miserably on cohesion.
Big miss on Butterfly Suite IMO.

i really liked it
I liked the production, specially in the vocals...he seems to be closer to how he was produced in mellon collie and machina. But really liked the chorus and bridge

Also, damn he was in another league in 1997, Eye was such a departure from what he was doing in 1996 and he belted that one just for the Lost Highway soundtrack
Impressive

That's a very special song. It's cool that they've been playing it a bunch in recent years.
