This doesn't sound like Pearl Jam. But is it a good song? Does Ed sound great? For me, the answers are yes and yes.

How much is your reaction about the fact that it's "bad", and how much is it that it's just a total left-turn? Actually this is most definitely a right turn, but you get my point. If after 23 years they wanted to do something brand-new, a lot of things would get the "This is not Pearl Jam" reaction. At the very least, even if I ended up hating it, they've committed to a completely different type of song and it succeeds at being exactly what it is.

Whatever it is.

Nevermind. Finally got it.

It's like a parody of a rom com song.

I am speechless right now. This is not the Pearl Jam I know and love.
No, it's not. But that doesn't mean the song can't be enjoyed (at least by me).

Yeah, as I said in the other thread, people are gonna need many spins to accept this for what it is instead of what it is not.

As a Backspacer fan I can honestly say this album so far has given me no reason to listen to it again apart from FON and The End. Tickle me boys.

That about perfectly sums it up for me.

The verses are quite Springsteen. So movie soundtrack doesn't put me off.

Man, I don't even know... fuck me.

And I hope Eddie just says "thanks for ditching Stone and Jeff, dumbass" then tells him Mudhoney sucks and that he's done with the opening slot handouts.

I'm confused, too, but yeah. This is not what any of us mean here when we wish for "experimental", but it kind of is that.

Absolutely. It's like when people wish PJ were challenging and alienating still, like Stone said this album would be, "like No Code." Well, it is (what is this song if not challenging?), but this time it's Red Mosquito being alienated, not the Pit. It kind of hurts when you're the one being alienated!

Few more listens....the base music and vocal melodies are pretty cool, but the solo is outcheesed only by the lyrics.

Can't wait for the the ass kissers to go on and on and on about how this is among Mike's greatest work. The solo fucking sucks.

Good it is.

I also like the piano in this one.

For me, it's the equivalent of Pearl Jam cutting a decently made No Doubt style ska song. I can see that it's well done, but I don't like that brand of ska music...it does nothing for me at all, and having Ed's voice on it doesn't change that fact. Or, if you like ska, use electronica or Whitney Houston-type 80's pop to make the analogy work.

I must say all the negativity makes me more excited to hear it.

If people have strong opinions on it, it must mean it's a departure from the norm.
