I agree. We should not give gender-affirming care to gay kids.

How would a doctor tell the difference in a prepubescent or early-pubescent child? Ask them in between their robolox sessions?

Sexual orientation and gender identity are distinctly different concepts. If one cannot distinguish between they two, one ought stick to harassing librarians who are grooming kids by letting them read And Tango Makes Three.

How would a doctor tell the difference between a child struggling with gender identity and a child who is struggling with their sexual orientation in a prepubescent or early-pubescent child?

Therein lies the problem, the only person who can accurately answer that is the child... a child who has just started or has not yet gone through puberty is expected to understand their sexuality to the extent that they can choose whether or not to be sterilized through the disruption of reproductive organ development. There is great risk to gay kids that they will be misdiagnosed as trans and put onto the medical treatment pathway.

Have you ever spoken to a kid? They speak and understand English pretty early.

I don't understand what you're asking. Kids speak english. You don't prescribe medication based on suspicion. If the kid can't explain the difference, then you don't give them medication.

If they can, then you start discussing different options and the risks and benefits that those options have. And you try to figure out if the kid understands that or if their parents understand that.

You keep asking questions like doctors are throwing medication in the air and seeing who it hits.

Bi_3 doesn't understand the difference so he thinks doctors wouldn't; funny how he suddenly doesn't trust doctors

this isn't happening because people actually involved in this on a daily basis, instead of just for fun on an Internet forum, understand the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity

Well ... maybe if the kid's doctor practices out of a self-storage container.

it's always great when an argument is made on the basis of "what if the people directly involved in the subject know as little about it as me?"

I took my kid in with a sore throat, but he didn't explain it to the doctor correctly and they amputated his leg. I wish Bi had been there to save his basketball career.

Of course there is. The majority of people with Gender Dysphoria desist and the majority of those go on to be gay.

https://www.thecut.com/2016/07/whats-mi ... -kids.html
Here Barrett is referring to the so-called desistance literature, and another doctor sounds a similar note toward the bottom of the article. “Desistance,” in this context, means the tendency for gender dysphoria to resolve itself as a child gets older and older. All else being equal, this research suggests that the most likely outcome for a child with gender dysphoria is that they will grow up to be cisgender and gay or bisexual. Researchers don’t know why that is, but it appears that in some kids, nascent homo- or bisexuality manifests itself as gender dysphoria. In others, gender dysphoria can arise as a result of some sort of trauma or other unresolved psychological issue, and goes away either with time or counseling. And in still others, of course, it is a sign that the child will identify as transgender for their whole adult life. While the actual percentages vary from study to study, overall, it appears that about 80 percent of kids with gender dysphoria end up feeling okay, in the long run, with the bodies they were born into.
Any approach other than "watchful waiting" risks pulling gay kids into medical transition.

B, what I think you are brushing over is that you have an underlying assumption that kids who qualify for blockers are aware of their lifelong sexuality and gender identity to the extent that they can definitively know what they will feel post-puberty, even though they have not yet gone through sexual development and at the same time are struggling with Gender Dysphoria. Psychological conditions like GD are not like a sore throat, they require long periods of evaluation and support as the child's mind and body develop. Once the person has worked through it with the doctors and is mature enough to understand themselves and are able to comprehend and consent to the risks and benefits, then medical transition should be considered. I get that you want to protect trans kids and not have them struggle through puberty, but there is so much collateral damage that comes with an affirmation-first approach that it maybe it's not the right thing to have as the baseline protocol.

And as for doctors:
