At the end of the day, you could always spend the first 20 minutes or so at a bar "thinking" and then "socialize" for the remainder of the time.

Totally fair. I think most people probably agree with you. But this is the irrational hatred thread, after all.Jorge wrote:Being at a bar alone "to think" is more antithetical to being in a bar than trivia, IMO. I see bars as predominantly social spaces

Re: Things you have an irrational hatred of
I mostly want to be left alone when I'm solo at a bar. Usually I have on headphones or earbuds. I'm usually writing. My being quiet and wanting to be left alone doesn't impede on anyone else's experience. I can't imagine anyone at a bar where I'm hanging out alone gives a good tin shit what I'm up to, whether that be writing, or drinking, or thinking, or reading, or all of the above. I doubt I cross anyone else's mind at all.

Wild concept, but hear me out: Bars could put trivia on their schedule so you would know to either attend, or avoid and go to another bar assuming you’re in a city large enough to where it has multiple non-trivia-night bars.

I hate when bars have other people in them. I would much prefer to just have the bar to myself.

I don't understand how I can sit on a wide open, windy beach, and I still know the moment the woman 40 ft from me lights a cigarette.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I don't mind cigarettes at all. They remind me of hanging out with my friends in bars back before cigarettes were banned. Good times.

Smoking is still allowed in some bars where I live. It’s weird.BurtReynolds wrote:I don't mind cigarettes at all. They remind me of hanging out with my friends in bars back before cigarettes were banned. Good times.

Without the cigarette smoke, a lot of them smell like sweat and vomit now. The smoke was providing a valuable service.bodysnatcher wrote:Smoking is still allowed in some bars where I live.
