Records - 2.5
Sleeping - 3
Yellow moon - 3
Future days - 1
This is obviously based on first listen alone. I have a strong feeling this album is a grower. Both released songs keep getting better and better with each listen. But this was my initial reaction.
Gigaton
Who Ever Said - 5
Superblood Wolfmoon - 4 (4.5 now it’s fucking insanely fun and energetic.)
DotC - 3.5 (4.75 now... and climbing)
Quick Escape - 3.5
Alright - 1.75
Seven O’Clock - 4
Never Destination - 1.5
Take The Long Way - 2.5
Buckle Up - 1
Comes then goes - 2
Retrograde - 5 potential
River Cross - 5 potential.
Again. I guarantee these scores will go higher not lower. The beginning and the end of the album were EVERYTHING I wanted from a new PJ album. The middle is stuff I have to chew on...and my scores reflect my initial knee jerk reaction to it not being what I wanted...
but I’m excited to bite down on it all soon.

Hey man. Thanks for the rankings especially for Gigaton.
Just to help us form expectations, could you add some details about the songs we haven't heard yet? For example, I'm interested to know if the rockers on the album besides SBWM are similarly fast paced or more deliberate. Are they punk rockers or more slow building, anthemic songs with big choruses?
I know you just had one listen and it isn't possible to give many details but anything you can add in relation to the songs we already have heard would be great.

I know you just had one listen and it isn't possible to give many details but anything you can add in relation to the songs we already have heard would be great.
yeah, this.
Who Ever Said was a rocker very similar to SBWM. For me, I liked it better on first listen. Perfect opener. Powerful and immediately familiar in the best way possible. something only PJ can do. Those 2 songs go hand in hand.
Quick Escape isn’t really a rocker. More of an anthemic arena song. I think people will enjoy this one.
Never Destination felt very familiar. Like I had already heard it before. Typical punk-PJ. Supersonic-y. Mayyyyybe a little Olé. Didn’t grab me on first listen.
Take the long way had a bit of a soaring chorus to it. I remember liking it better than never destination and I believe it was because of the chorus...but they are very similar in style. The song didn’t flow well for me cause the odd time signature was jarring. It’ll take some listens to get into it. I think I remember liking the ending of this song too...?
And that is it for rockers on the album...
It’s a poppy album FYI. Not a riot act. I think some people’s expectations were something along those lines. It’s def in the vein of the last 3 albums. The production is the only thing that’s truly different. And DotC.
As far as big choruses. You get those in retrograde and 7 o’clock. They are sirens-type choruses. Lifted up even more by the swirling production. Great atmosphere to those songs.
I wonder if they will do an early streaming release ala Lightning Bolt?...

Thanks man, appreciate it. One last question (promise!):
Would you describe Ed's vocal delivery on SBWM (fast paced and intense throughout most of the song) as typical of the rest of the rockers or does he get more deliberate with the pace and explore more dynamics in the other rockers?

I wanna play. Doing this impulsively so who knows how it will go. I feel like songs will be inflated on later albums because its hard not to say "this is my favorite on the album" though if im REALLY comparing it its possible the Even Flow, Corduroy, Better Man, Daughters of the world should be 6's

Lightning Bolt: 3.42
Riot Act: 3.40
Binaural: 3.27
Im ok with this mostly. I think Vitalogy was hurt by a lot of filler, though I would rank it higher for the strength of its strongest tracks. No Code's haphazard nature worked against it though I like it better than the ranking indicates, and Yield is bolstered by its strongest songs but I think its my least favorite of the first five. I also feel like I prefer Binaural to Riot Act but they have opposite starts (I hate the first three tracks of Binaural, and think the first three tracks of Riot Act are three of the strongest)

I can’t imagine having such a vivid memory of songs after listening to them once over a month ago.

For example, I'm interested to know if the rockers on the album besides SBWM are similarly fast paced or more deliberate. Are they punk rockers or more slow building, anthemic songs with big choruses?
I know you just had one listen and it isn't possible to give many details but anything you can add in relation to the songs we already have heard would be great.
Would you describe Ed's vocal delivery on SBWM (fast paced and intense throughout most of the song) as typical of the rest of the rockers or does he get more deliberate with the pace and explore more dynamics in the other rockers?
yeah, this. (thanks KidC-!)

Im pretty disappointed that after a seven year wait PJ may have made another album that sounds like the last three.

I don't think it will. DOTC and SBWM don't sound like BS or LB to me.

Being invited to hear your favorite bands new album 3 months before its release is a pretty memorable experience to say the least.

I’m only going by my initial reactions now. Specifics are pretty lost. But I remember my first impressions of the album and that’s what I’ve posted.
