Man, Ed hasn't belted out a song like this since Ten. In fact, this song would not be out of place on that album.

We're looking down on Pearl Jam's music. Only, that's not Pearl Jam's music. Isn't that weird?

It's going to be all over the fucking place, but Lightning Bolt's going to be a good album.

Whether or not you like it, and whether or not Ed is sounding good (he is), this song has verrrrrrrry little in common with the songs found on Ten.

Well it isn't as big of a stretch as some people would like to believe. It's also arguable that there aren't any cheesy songs on Ten as someone posted earlier.

I haven't listened to any of these leaks, but I'm thoroughly enjoying the reviews. Sounds like after this one, Stone is rolling over in his grave.

Mostly because of production and Ed not sounding as in PMS mode any more.

I think it's the general anthemic quality that people are finding evocative of Ten.

This is kinda of like what ATW was trying to be, except here they totally commit.

harmless wrote:This doesn't sound like Pearl Jam. But is it a good song? Does Ed sound great? For me, the answers are yes and yes.

How much is your reaction about the fact that it's "bad", and how much is it that it's just a total left-turn? Actually this is most definitely a right turn, but you get my point. If after 23 years they wanted to do something brand-new, a lot of things would get the "This is not Pearl Jam" reaction. At the very least, even if I ended up hating it, they've committed to a completely different type of song and it succeeds at being exactly what it is.

Whatever it is.
Team Harmless.

I really like the song overall. It's got some lyrics that seem a little clunky and it absolutely doesn't feel at all like "Pearl Jam." It's hard to imagine it fitting into a live show at all--even if it's going to sound very different played live.

But the song itself, I like it pretty well. Even the solo.
