Whether or not you like it, and whether or not Ed is sounding good (he is), this song has verrrrrrrry little in common with the songs found on Ten.
Not true, if you wanted to, you could call both dated, emotionally overwrought, over produced, kinda 80's and cheesy. In different ways, to different degrees.

Ten-none
VS-Golirified G, maybe Rats
Vitalogy-Bugs
No Code-Mankind(enough said)
Yield-none that I can think of
Binaural-Soon Forget
Riot Act-BushLeaguer
S/t-Big Wave, Inside Job
Backspacer-The Fixer, Johnny Guitar,Supersonic, Speed of Sound...that's a lot on BS

While I haven't hear Sirens yet, PJ has done cheesy quiet well over their career...Am I missing any?
Um... you need to hear it.

I think I do to but I'm retarded when it comes to this computing stuff. We'll see.

This is kinda of like what ATW was trying to be, except here they totally commit.
They're certainly totally committed, but I don't get that anthemic ATW vibe here. ATW felt like it was trying to be a Ten-era song. I'm not sure what this is trying to be, but it's not really that, for me.

Hey, if you're going to do this kind of song you might as well fucking go for it. Dive right in and win the American Idol final. I think they succeeded (in a good way).

I'm just realising now that lyrically, I don't think the metaphor of the "Sirens" is being carried through. It's just a throwaway line that sounds nice. That's disappointing; they could've made it stranger, or at least written more imagery to do with sounds, signals, the stuff portrayed by the artwork. But it's like the sirens idea is thrown off on the intro and then it's just a standard love song.

This song might be doing all the wrong things, but it's doing them so, so well.

Since i'm not going in on this leak, this is what may save it for me. I'm like some of you in that I think this band is at it's best when Ed is front and center. He is the defining sound of this band, without him they are just another band (strong creative dudes, but not world class).

Funny how I had German dude's rendition in my head at work all last week, and now I'll have the real version, and they're pretty spot on.

This song definitely grows on you, cheese and all, this album will be interesting, in a good way.

1. "Getaway"
2. "Mind Your Manners"

3. "My Father's Son"
4. "Sirens"
5. "Lightning Bolt"

6. "Infallible"
7. "Pendulum"
8. "Swallowed Whole"
9. "Let the Records Play"

10. "Sleeping By Myself"
11. "Yellow Moon"
12. "Future Days"

The more I listen the more I realize to appreciate this song we need to do what Pearl Jam did: shit your pants and dive in and swim.

I can't wait to see the playlist Rdio sets for me after only listening to this song... Time to break out the stone washed jeans, me thinks.

I'm viewing it more as the Siren from Greek mythology. Ed is alone in a hotel room, away from his wife and the Sirens calling him are the ladies he may have met on the road when he was young and single (after Beth). But he has changed and is not that man anymore. He is happy with his relationship and doesn't want to make a mistake. So allthough he hears them, and he still has the fear of giving in, he's going to stay true to his woman.
