Yeah, this isn't a bad comparison. There are some moments where I'm feeling End-of-Innocence Don Henley, too. And other stuff that I can't quite put my finger on.

This album is feeling timeless and 'classic rock' more and more... production flourishes ago-go.

Listened on Rdio, mixed feelings on this one. The guitar snippet from the Mike video that was posted got me really excited, it's a really pretty melody. I don't dislike the full band version, but I can't help but think this would sound better if it were a bit more sparse or restrained. It's like its trying to be an anthem, which I think the band is succeeding at, but I could see Ed and Mike carrying the song by themselves too. We'll see how it sounds in the context of the rest of the album.

They've done a similar thing to Arcade Fire here. There are people listening to the new disco stuff and saying "This isn't Arcade Fire." The producer has had a huge influence. Except that Pearl Jam's efforts aren't nearly as cool.

It's definitely got a classic rock vibe. I think the Kelly Clarkson, poison, Bon Jovi comparisons are off. I can hear poppy Zeppelin, wings, but a ton of pink floyd wish you were here and comfortably numb. Digging it, Ed's great, 12 string is nice, and Matt's typically awesome.

A lot of Floyd fans unwilling to admit how cheesy they are

Yes it's not what they normally would have done, but hell, the fact that they did this, and did it well.....it's great. I'd take a flaming from this entire board, and still be very comfortable with this song.
I lost my mother back in 1989, so she never knew Pearl Jam and she was not there during my entire 'fandom'... But I know what you mean.

I took this on the "drive test" on the way into work...
Dime said "it's not shit, it just reminds us of shit bands that do these things. its a fucking incredible song"
I agree with the first part, big time.
I cant say its incredible . Im still trying to wrap my head around this.
Cute moment driving in though...
There was a mother and maybe a 12 month old toddler walking along the sidewalk. Cute little hispanic chubby toddler just figuring out to walk...she was stumbling then reached her hand up to mommy for help...
Totes adorbes, bro's.
But yea that put a little smile on the old face instead of the perplexed eye squint i had...

As far as the public is concerned that could have been the artwork for every album since Vitalogy. And yet here we are...
This argument only comforted me when the songs weren't polished, packaged forthe radio and some CW tv show dreck. All i hear is 'GUYS WE WANT A HIT PRETTY PLEASE PEOPLE STILL LIKE THE 80S RIGHT?' With Bo'B laughing as he masturbates in the background and mike gleefully jumping around cause he finally got to be in a cheeseball 80's band.
I need a video with leather trousers, bandanas, eyeliner and cowboy hats to make this acceptable.
I really will stop now, i'm glad so many people like it, if they didn't this would be a very sad place.
